Another printer question...

How to get the HP 2055 to print from both trays. When I have paper in tray 1 it only prints from tray 1.

I followed all the other instructions for paper set up. On paper source (in print preferences, I selected printer automatically select, and I also tried just automatically select).

Same question in thread #295871, just a couple of threads down the page.

I have found that HP tech support is very helpful. Their number is1800-334-5144. I had a couple of issues with a 2015X which they solved.

I'll make the same suggestion here as in the other thread with the same question.
Check to make sure you're setting you printer to print from the correct trays. Often the bypass feeder is set as tray one. So you may have to set to print from two and three.

I only have two trays, not three

The point is, if you only have two physical trays, the software (and printer firmware) **may** consider the envelope or override feeder as a 'tray'. Thus the feeder may be Tray 1, the top physical tray (holding 250 pages or so) is Tray 2 and the bottom physical tray (holding a supply of paper) is Tray 3.

I had a printer that only had one physical tray, but it was considered "Tray 2" since the envelope feeder was considered "Tray 1".

ok, so can I still automatically print letter (tray 1, feeder tray) and legal (tray 2) within the same print job. Or do I need three trays. A feeder tray (tray 1), a letter tray (tray 2) and a legal tray (tray 3). Right now, as long as I have paper in the feeder tray (tray 1), it automatically prints only from that tray.

It depends ...

... on the printer make/model and how the software (drivers) and firmware (code within the printer itself) manage the paper source. Not all printers consider the envelope feeder as a "tray". Refer to your printer's configuration documentation. (Are call the printer manufacturer's support number.)

Re: It depends ...

I got it working! Called HP tech support (thanks to the poster who gave me that number), and was talked through the set up. Now I can print letter and legal, as well as duplex!
Does anyone do duplex printing for the borrower's copies?

Duplex for BO is something I always considered, but I am

concerned that when they or I make an error I would not want to replace the error with a duplexed page. Have a friend that puts docs on CD for BO and others that print BO copy on letter only, but for the same reason I would not like this either. Personally I like my packages to look as neat and tidy as possible and try to return with as few or no cross outs and corrections as possible. Just my own dumb rule.
