Federal Express
I don't usually scrutinize the FedEx (or UPS, for that matter) shipping labels that are sent to me with loan docs. However, I did this time and guess what? The sender's name was "my name & my company name". It looked as if I had printed the label myself, but I didn't. I kept reading and saw the words, "Bill the Shipper". Hmmm....shipper...in this case that would be me! The delivery address correctly indicated the Title Company.
I did not use that shipping label. I printed out my own and returned the docs. I've placed a call to the Title company to find out more about this. My gut is telling me that this was an oversight or mistake on someone's part. But I would like to know how another company was able to use my account number number without my authorization. I don't do a lot of business with this company but enough for me to warrant looking back over my records to make sure this did not happen in the past. I have no recollection of giving this company my account information. I may need to call FedEx to get some answers too.
I can't believe I almost billed myself for overnighting docs to a Title company (SMH).
I'll let you know what I find out.

They didn't use your account number. They used theirs and specified your address as the "shipped from" address. Most don't do this, but I do when I send someone a label, especially when I want it picked up. They are still the "shipper" and they would have billed their account for it.

I hope you're right, Joan.
It wouldn't be the first time I overreacted. Thank you for explaining this.

I've seen it before. They don't have your acct #
They use theirs and just list you as the shipper. I suppose it would be worth asking them, but I'd be very surprised if they were somehow billing you as the shipper.

Never, ever list yourself as the shipper!
Best advice: Same company, address, etc., as the recipient.
Always use Title Company (or signing service, whoever called you) as the shipper.
I'm still fighting with FedEx (it has been years) over a wrong account number. I'm not paying, and that was the last time that I put my name and address as the shipper.
Caveat lector.
