Help from the GEORGIA people!

I have been conducting mobile closings for 10 yrs. I need to move to Georgia to be with my daughter. I understand I can't do this there because it is an attorney state!?
What do you folks suggest . Maybe I should get a real estate license? I must make money I have alot of bills!

Doubt that a newbie r.e. agent is going to set the world on fire in a new community in a down economy. What's Plan C?

Kathryn, what's your background? Since you already know GA is an attorney-only state, no you can't do loan signings there, so sounds to me like Plan C is either (a) shop yourself around to title companies and/or law firms in the area where you'll be living and see if you can get a job with them if you're determined to stay "in the industry"; or (b) find work in a field related to whatever background you have.

No matter how you slice it you're going to be starting all over again. If it were me I'd be looking to just nail down a job to keep my head above water.

Should have added (boy I'm getting good at this)..

Of course, we ALL know there ARE notaries in GA who do loan signings, despite the law. I'm sure you don't want to get involved in something like that, though. Besides, you need to get your GA commission before you do anything, so you're on hold til you move.

Back to Plan C.....find a job.

Well…..if you really want my suggestion? Don’t move to Georgia…forget about those peaches and pecans, and worry about those pesky ‘water-bugs’. But, if you must, and you need money….First change your name to Georgia Lawyer…(easy for a female). Then start a LLC…something like First Fidelity, or First Guarantee, or First Fidelity Guarantee….Settlement Services. Then get a cell phone, and an email address. Then send out mass emails to all the existing Georgia Notaries telling them how they can make a fortune working for you doing ‘witness closings’. Also advertise throughout the State, telling people to “sign up with you” (say for $100) and how they can make big bucks doing signings. Give them a three question online course/certification. (They must go to the Clerk of the Superior Court and get their notary commission…but that’s easy, they can do it online) Then mass e-mail to every Title Company in the US that …“Georgia Lawyer’s First Fidelity Guaranteed Settlement Company” …does witness closings in GA for $100, maybe $200. Believe me; you will have no competition at those prices. You will get thousands of orders, you collect the money…and you don’t pay anyone! You should be able to do this for 3-4 months, and then you just change names, or have a friend do it, and start again. The only problem is that because Georgia is an ‘attorney only’ State. You may displease some lawyers, and we all know that lawyers just love to sue everyone all the time over minor things, so watch out for that. Just be hard to find, and keep all the cash in cash.

"Minor things" like criminal conduct? the unauthorized practice of law in GA is a misdemeanor. And pretty much all companies that call me for closings ask or require some type of documentation showing I am an attorney.... looking back on the post you were probably just kidding about the whole scenario but just saying......
