Horror Closing
I had the worst closing of my life last night. I accepted one of those "last minute deals" after being on the road over 12 hours yesterday. They agreed to my fee, I got my docs and I was off. When I arrived at the Borrower's house, he had a rotweiller in a steel cage in the middle of his dining room (which is where he chose to sign). That dog was foaming at the mouth, biting at his cage and growling at me the whole while I was there. I currently have a Golden Retriever, who was so mortified of her kennel when I first got her, that she squeezed her face through the door area, cut herself and got out of that kennel. That was the same exact kennel that this rottie was in. Now, if that wasn't going to cause my heart attack this would: I asked would he kindly take the dog out of the room and maybe tie it outside, or maybe we could go to the clubhouse (he was in a develpment) and sign there. He said, and I quote, "if I try to open the cage, he'll run right over me and go for your throat and I won't be able to stop him" and "he was too tired to go outside the house"... Needless to say, I politely excused myself and figured it wasn't worth the money, or my life. Anybody else have near death experiences while trying to get loan docs signed?

wow Joanne - no one deserves that - I take it you didn't complete the closing?

I didn't. I couldn't because I was literally afraid for my life and I could not understand how the Borrower couldn't see that. Luckily they are rescheduling this closing for this evening and he's agreed to meet me in the clubhouse.

Very smart decision.
I agree. Kennels can be broken out of very easily.

The other side of doggiedom
I have gotten fairly complete baths twice in the last month. Clothes and all. A giant goldendoodle and one that looked like a golden retriever. The owners thought it was cute that I said "no" to the dog and he kept doing it. I don't mind a "hello" lick but the fanatical licking dogs can be corraled as well as far as I am concerned.

How about the ones that go right for the crotch area. Yikes. They're relentlous. The owners can't see how uncomfortable that can make someone feel? I mean geez, even my husband needs permission.

Yesterday must have been horror closing day. I had a bad signing also. Although it was the husband who was growling. Beautiful house though! I got some great ideas for my own!

Although mine wasn't nearly as horrific as a foaming at the mouth angry dog, imagine trying to do a closing with no air conditioning in 90 degrees, with a fan blowing papers all over.
That's not the best part though...the "road" was actually nothing more than a mowed over lawn with tire tracks leading to a house literally sitting under trees. The road had some pretty major ruts - I could have walked there faster. At least it was daylight when I arrived. When I left though, I was informed that the drive circled around. Ok - no problem I thought. The Mr. showed me where to drive. As he was showing me where to turn, I approached what looked like an almost straight down hill and I just knew I was going to flip over. It wasn't a road - it was a maze. Finally, I made it back to the real road and was on my way back home.

On a good note...
I had the best signing ever on Monday. Got a call when I was on my way home to do a signing 5 miles from my house. My average drive for a signing is about 40-50 miles RT, so this was great. I was already dressed and in the car. Didn't have time to do edocs since they wanted me at the bwr. 45 minutes after they called, so they sent a courier to the bwr's house with the docs. Courier arrived 2 minutes before I did. Bwrs were lovely people and signing went smoothly. Same courier was sent to my house to retrieve docs next day. Total time invested in the signing was about an hour, compared to the usual 3 hours of phone calls, printing, signing, dropping off at FedEx, etc.

I love those! I like to think of them as a reward for all the other... stuff we put up with!
