True story: Was called by a title co to do a closing, all ready booked. Got called the next day to close it tonight, as things went WAY south on Monday night. Took closing for tonight. Called borrower last night to confirm and he asked me, "Do you PROMISE you'll be here?" Seems the closer on Monday night started telling the borrower at 8 pm that she was "on her way"..she arrived at 11:30 pm and lives in the same town! Then when she got there, she couldn't explain the docs. So she left them their copy AND hers!!!!
The borrower had kept track of every call she made to the notary & the return calls and there were over 15 calls in 3 hrs. YIKES!
The loan officer called me prior to the closing to make sure I would REALLY get there.
If you CAN'T make it to the closing, don't lie to the borrower, the lender or the title company. And if you don't know how to do a closing, don't accept them!
And.. NEVER EVER leave behind unsigned docs unless you've left the closing with a signed set.

Look, I'm sorry. I had car trouble, then I got stuck in traffic. My GPS battery went dead, then so did my cell phone. I pulled over to try to use a pay phone, but it had been so long since I used one that I forgot how they worked. Once I got there I was just too darn tired and frazzled to explain a thing, and besides I'm just a notary. It's not my job. So I left everything there so they could read it on their own. It seemed like the best thing to do. I did my best, but can you believe that the lousy signing service says they won't pay me or use me again??!! That's not fair!! Since I'm no longer working for them, can anyone give me the name of some good companies that pay well and don't care that I've got the business sense of a three year old? And please, no mean comments. If you can't give what I want then just shut up. TIA!

Where did you find a phone booth?

They have all but disappeared from Fla. except in hotel rooms.

And, while you were in the phone booth, why didn't you change your closes from mild mannered Al to Superman Al? Screw up!
