Magic Jack "issues"
I am having p[roblems with sending faxes using Magic Jack. It stops 1/2 way through and says "poor line condition" no matter where I send them, (even the fax back sheet to JMT). Also my computer has crashed, my son's computer crashed since he has been using his magic jack and my daughter's friend has had her computer crash twice in the past 5 months and she, too, just started using magic jack a few months before it crashed. I also have had people I'm talking to ask if I'm pushing the buttons on the phone because they are hearing loud beeps every so often (like what you would hear if someone were to hit one of the buttons while talking to you). Magic Jack customer service responds to "uninstall it, reinstall it and try again". That doesn't work neither. And they aren't too good at the customer service end if you need help. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? I only purchased the one year plan and now I wonder if I want to continue it longer at renewal.

I do not use this type service and I am by no means a technical guru, but I have heard people say that they have more success with Ooma. It's based on the same premise as Magic Jack, without all the hassle.

"Beeping" is a commonly reported problem. There are a lot of 'issues' that have been reported and a lot of them have been solved, but not by MagicJack. You may want to read the unofficial MJ support forum at http://www.magicjacksupport.com/.
I had a major issue in that MJ installs itself creating two logical drives. It always grabbed "D:" and "I:" by default. After talking with a MJ technical support guy, I found the correct way to reassign the drives so they "stick" between reboots.

I use an ATA digital converter. By for the most dependable service I've ever used and its only 24.95 a month. Works in conjunction with all computers without interuption. Cheaper is not always a good deal. let me know I can send you info on it...tlb

I hate my MJ. Bad line quality even on voice, and I never ever got a fax to go through. I have it as an advertised business line, so I'll be keeping it for at least a year or so, but to combat the problem I had to forward the line to my house. If I hadn't advertised that number I would have just let it go. Another expensive lesson I learned.

Expensive?? I'm sure you spend more on junk than you did on MJ.
As for line clarity, a lot has to do with your ISP. I had Brighthouse condition my lines when I had them install the new MTA. Every now and then I get some erratic noise, but its usually very quiet and no problems with voice or data, digital or analog.

I'm speaking of the expensive advertising on the phone line. And, I had 2 different ISP providers with the same results.

Ah, that makes sense. (Or ¢ent$ in the old world.)
Even with different ISPs, you may have a line conditioning issue if the same wire is used. Are you on DSL, or cable? DSL has lots of conditioning problems and the local telco (or whoever owns the physical lines) don't want the expense of conditioning and filtering their lines.

One ISP was Verizon DSL and the other was Comcast Cable. At the beginning (1st 4-6 weeks) everything was okey dokey with the V-DSL, then it went bad. Got Comcast, same issue. Go figger.
