Nations Direct and the latest insult.
I just got off the phone with ND, and I'll admit, I'm still laughing at their offer of $35.00 for an E-Doc closing. I thought perhaps it was someone I know yanking my chain, but it was for real...$ 35.00!!! I was still laughing at her when she hung up on me.I just couldn't help myself. Gee, what happened to their generous offers of $ 65.00 for those closings? Not that I would take that fee, but really...$35.00????

Unbelievable! Next thing you know, they'll be wanting us to pay them for the "privilege" of working with them.

That kind of offer isn't too far from just that! Geez, by the time you figure out your costs, you certainly wouldn't be making anything. Unbelievable!

Got called from them today also. They didn't offer anything. They just asked what my fee was and I told them XXX for that county and city. They said they would call back if they could get it approved. Obviously haven't heard back.

Received a call yesterday and they offered $40. Then the caller asked, "what would I take." I told them and he said he would put me in the system. Must be they're taking bids for service and low bidder wins. I didn't realize I was participating in a bidding war.

Come on guys….let’s be fair! ND only charges title companies $150! Really! They have to make some profit for all the work they do! Let’s see $35 for the notary and $115 for them! Considering what we do, and what they do, does that not sound like a equitable split?

lol Les...In reality, I had a call from them in the last two weeks. They wanted me to travel over 30 miles one way for edocs and pay me $60. Since it was two counties away, I told them my fee with edocs was $xxx. I was told they'd have to get it approved and call me back. Not expecting to hear from them, I made other appointments that night for my full fee.
What irks me is the notaries who are taking these low ball fees - it's making it harder for us full time notaries to keep busy.

I have stated before; the notaries who will work for Nations Direct, for their low ball fee, are the notaries who do not have any expense such as paper and printing cost. They are using their employers paper and printing or, they don't have their LTP and don't have to pay for Surety Bond and all of the other expense involved. This will only increase when the Surety Bond increase here in Maryland.

Just tell them what you need and if they call back OK--they will pay and they pay for no signs. What I really love is when they call, usually at eom, and say what will it take for you to go out. I never get crazy with a fee but I am usually booked for that time. Hey, if they can get some idiot to go do a signing and do all those fax backs for $35 good for them. We know better though, don't we?

Re: Using employer's equipment, paper, toner
Isn't it just so interesting that some small business currently stuggling to survive--that just happens to employ a notary--like, say, a real estate office--is paying for these HUGE, 7 BILLION DOLLAR BAILED OUT BANKS' paperwork? The thought makes me ill.
