New Notary- Need Start-up advise PLEASE

Hello to all,

I am a new independent notary. I have past experience but always as part of a bank. I need some advise on how to set-up my fees....what do I charge for a basic notarization, travel, printing loan docs, shipping them back, etc.

I would appreciate any advice, or suggestion on where I could see samples of fees. I am in WI so if anyone has any info specifically for WI, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I did research our state's official notary website, but I would like some personal experience info from a fellow independent notary.

Thank you so very much for any and all info you can give me!!
~Maria

Using the Orange Search button

Start with message #33325. . . this covers just about anything you may wish to know. Read a lot while you are figuring this all out. There is a wealth of information to be found in this thread alone.

If particular item, example, fees, then search fees. Equipment also important. If you search before asking, others will be more helpful guiding you around.

Make sure your profile, which is what your client base will see, reflects your experience, etc. accurately. Study a few profiles for ideas but please don't copy anyone's...that will really irritate the heck out of someone you copy.

Good luck - this is a difficult time for everyone right now as business is not what it used to be few years ago....people are quitting daily and finding jobs. Also search your zip code to see how saturated (or not) your area is.

Check out the Signing Central tab and look at comments others have left about companies - for the most part, they are accurate, but if the comments are very old, you may wish to ask before completing the assignment.

"I need some advise on how to set-up my fees....what do I charge for a basic notarization, travel,"

Keep in mind your "basic notarization" fee is established by your state statutes....check those or your notary handbook for what you're allowed to charge....they should also contain info as to whether or not you're allowed to charge a travel fee as part of your notarial duties.

And search hear, read, read, read, and then read some more....and trust the word of those who have gone before you...don't think it can never happen to you.....cuz it can....Believe them!!
