Now they want a background check from me?
Hello: Is anyone being asked to provide a background check for a closing. Being in Maryland we are already being squeezed to pay more for our surety bond. This is what I'm seeing they want to low ball the LTP and put all the liability on them. Anyone else having this request. The company that asked for it is "Mortgage Docs". I told them I don't have a background check, but can provide a Maryland License, bond, E@O, oh yes did I mention first born. That's what its starting to feel like,,,,lol
Your thoughts Kimmy from Maryland

Background Checks: Name of the Game ...
for a number of companies, as they interpret the requirements of the G-L-B Act. For me, I've done it as price I have to pay in order for me to play ... just like E&O insurance. Many others haven't.

I believe Transcontinental Title wanted one recently, but you had to go through the "NNA" and no one else. Supposedly the "NNA" would forward it to them. First off, I don't want my information forwarded to everyone without my permission, and 2nd, how would they even know to do that? They don't know who I work for...weird. I forward that on to whoever myself, they should just keep on file. I have a current Background check through the state of Florida for my Appraiser's license, but that's no good apparently. It's my impression that some of these companies worked a deal with the "NNA" or who ever they insist you go through, and are geting a cutback. That's just my opinion. PS...They don't send me enough work to go through the hassel, and my "NNA" membership since expired since they are more expensive than anyone else, and don't do too much more than the less expensive notary companies.
