Out of Office Notary Information Sheet

Some of the forms sent in packages just amaze me! This form asks for not only my contact info and BO's ID, but also a copy of the log page, my seal so they can see that I have one..and...last but not least...a paragraph that I'm to fill in my name and sign authorizing the title company to make changes as they deem necessary "to the notary section only".

No way would I sign anything like that. How can you let them have a copy of the notary log page that has other BWRs confidential information.

Could just be me but that sounds a little fishy.

Everyone have a great day Smile

Sounds like you hooked up with a true "Forms Nerd" which has too much time on their hands.

Forms are good for memory jogging and data collection, but this is ridiculous. Changes to notary section? Oh please. Why? For what good purpose is that?

A copy of the log page? Are they asking for a copy of the journal page where the borrowers sign?

Yes, they call it the "notary log page" so I'm sure they mean the journal.

They made the "fill in blank" large enough that I can fill in my name and in bold "DO NOT" to precede the authorization wording for correcting the cert.

"Forms nerd" - I like that!

I know in MO, the only way someone can get a copy of any page in a notary journal is by court order. Check your state SOS to see if they have the same requirement.

As others have stated, this sounds fishy. Could you please provide the name of the SS/TC so we all are aware of their requirements?

>authorizing the title company to make changes as they deem necessary "to the notary >section only".
1) No allowed. In Texas, once the Notarization is complete, Notary signed and Notary stamped, You can NOT make changes. The only thing that can be done is to have the doc redrawn, then signed as usual and your Notary Cert completed.
2) Who the H--L is this company (SS, TC) anyway?

As to anything out of your journal…I’d say no. To the other request…I know of some Title Companies that have requested this.....Why? Usually to expedite a correction so the loan can fund on time.
Let us say there is a Non-borrowing Spouse that needs to sign the DOT…but Title only typed in the name of the borrowing spouse. The Notary gets the docs, go’s to the signing, finds out there is a NBS, calls SS or Title, gets instructions to have the NBS sign the TIL, - RTC, - DOT, etc.. Which she does….but when she fills out Notarial Certificate on the acknowledgement page of the DOT with the borrowers name ‘typed’ in; she forgets to add/print in the name of the NBS. I have seen this happen (not to me naturally). So Title can courier the original acknowledgment page back to the Notary for her to correct it and then have her courier it back, or just ask for permission to add in the NBS name, thus changing the Notarial block to read correctly. Title sometimes asks the notary to provide a ‘notary correction affidavit’ stating the error and what is needed to correct it which is then recorded along with the DOT. Remember Title may not know the exact notary laws in any given State.
