Reliable Settlement Services, MD
Hi, guys.
I'm a notary and attorney from California. I did three loan signings for Reliable Settlement Services, MD in the first part of the year.
They were really dragging their feet about paying me. After about four months, they paid me for the first signing.
Another month or two went by, and they finally sent me a letter saying that they were filing for bankruptcy. They offered me 20% of what they owed me, or the option to get in line with all the other creditors in the bankruptcy proceedings.
This is the first time that I have not been paid. Have others had any similar experiences?
Any info on this specific company?
Part of me wonders if they really are filing, of if they are just trying to get out of paying me.
Thanks in advance!
-Mike

There was just a recent post about them. I received the same letter. Hit the orange button and type in Reliable Settlement Services.

Flagship tried the same thing with me and they are still in business today. I let them get by with it for a couple months and one day decided to call their office and found out they were still there. So I started faxing them and the Title company 3 & 4 times a week and after 3 weeks I recieved a check in full for the 2 remaining closing they owed for. Now some here would also say to start the proceding for small claims actions and that is a great method as well.
Good Luck. T2

Ask the MD Attorney General to investigate for possible fraud ... closing a company owing vendors money ... opening another company immediately thereafter doing the exact same thing with the same clients ... I don't know if it's fraud but I'd ask them to look into it.

IMO it's possible that the bankruptcy could be "disallowed" if it is an intentional way to stiff vendors.
