Re: go to control panel and click on personalization

You only deleted the shortcut on your desktop not the recycle bin itself. LOL Good Luck!!

Not a laughing matter.

When you delete the recycle bin from your desktop, you are not deleting a short-cut, you are actually removing the "safe delete" process for files.

To replace the recycle bin, follow the appropriate link below:

Windows XP - http://www.5starsupport.com/xp-faq/1-24.htm

Windows Vista - http://itsvista.com/2007/01/itsvista-tip-19-restore-your-vista-recycle-bin-icon/

This happens frequently enough that Microsoft actually developed a 'fix' to replace the recycle bin. (Links provided in the referenced information.)

In Vista It's Not Necessarily a "Fix"....

...it's how MS designed the OS & I can't tell you the # of times I've accidentally done this exact same thing. If anything it's a "design flaw". What happens is when you right click on the Recycle Bin you don't click on the "Empty Recycle Bin" in the drop down box, but you hit "Delete" instead. This removes the Recycle Bin shortcut from the desktop. As someone else pointed out it's a simple matter of going into Control Panel to reinstall it.

Warning!!

I usually surf in Linux, but I just happen to be in Vista when I read this post and when I went to the "Its Vista" site, it set off my anti-virus warning me that the site is attempting to load a suspicious code on my computer. It could be harmless, as I did not research it. When something sets off my warning systems, I don't give it a second look.

Neither one of those sites are official Microsoft sites, and I would caution against their use. In my monthly senior citizen class, I have traced a lot of problems to third party sites that claim to fix the problems in Windows, including deleting the recycle bin from the desktop in error. In every case, they hit delete instead of empty and then panicked and surfed for a fix when none was necessary except for using the "Help and Support" section of their Windows menu. I would recommend only getting updates and fixes from the Microsoft site. I am not a fan of Windows, but in a lot of cases, I still have to use it and I try to keep on top of what works.

People forget to click on the "Help and Support" tab in their menu. If you do so, and enter "Recycle Bin" you will find a variety of functions for the recycle bin in both XP and Windows including showing or hiding the recycle bin as a normal function. Even if you delete the icon from the desktop, you can still find the bin in the regular menu, although it is a little difficult. It will also show when you use the disk cleanup function. No third party fixes necessary.

Re: Warning!!

Glenn,

I have not had any problems with either one of those sites and I have used them occasionally. I don't know what set off your alarm, but I had no alarms nor has a scan produced anything. This is not to say be cautious, but I'm curious to find out what triggered your AV.

Yahoo Techie Question!!

I have a techie question about downloading and reading my Yahoo Mail form Mozilla Firefox. When using the FireFox to open my Yahoo.com mail, I can sign in and open mail, but it will only display the subject and the persons whom the message came from. I can not open or read the message itself. Any answers to this problem.

Re: Yahoo Techie Question!!

I have no problems reading my Yahoo mail. When opening the mailbox, it displays a list of each mail item. Clicking on the subject then opens that mail item.

Did you try opening your mail using IE, or some other browser? This may be something you need to contact Yahoo about.

At your Desk Top, Right Click
A box will come up -- Click on Personalize
On the left side of the screen, click on Change Desk Icons
A box will come up -- Check the Recyle Bin
Then click OK
