Title Insurance Policies issues on CT real property

Very simple. The ONLY agents authorized to sign title insurance policies insuring Connecticut real property are attorneys admitted to practice law in the state of CT (in good standing).
There are a few exceptions; such as a few non-attorney agents who were existing employees of title insurance companies at the time the law was passed (maybe 20 years or so ago).

If you have a concern about a title insurance policy, you can call the CT Insurance Dept. They can check the name of the title insurance company issuing the policy to see if it is licensed to do business in CT. You can then go to the CT judicial web site to see if the person signing it is an attorney in good standing in CT. The CT Bar Association Real Property Section will also help with any concerns or complaints.
