HP Printer Economy Mode question....
I just replaced my HP printer from an HP P2015 to P2035 and it seems whenever I replace the printer cartridge, my printer properties change back to normal mode. I didn't realize this until I printed a several loan packages and I got a warning that my toner cartridge was low already after only 3 days! I never had to reselect economy mode after changing cartridges on my other HP. This is so absurd and will get expensive if I forget..... Does anyone else have to do this as well?

Go in to your printer properties and then you can choose how "dark"or "light"you want to print. Make sure that you select "apply"and then "ok" otherwise it wont take it.

If you accept a software update with some models, it will reset to default values.
A computer geek friend of mine says that some manufactures, including HP are re-writing the drivers to constantly re-set to default values. What better way to sell more ink and toner.

I had a feeling that is what was going on....
I made sure I went out of my way to check the settings before and after I replaced the cartridge. I then called HP tech support and the tech did not know anything about that happening but did say for that to happen the drivers would be causing that but insisted they weren't doing that. Most likely he wasn't aware of this or is playing stupid. My other pet peeve is the fact that I was forced to replace my HP P2015 because it was defective but past the warranty. The P2035 is the replacement and although the toner cartridges are the same price, the yield seems to do 700 pages less. Another sneaky way for HP to make more money. I wish I could return the printer but now it is too late....

Re: I had a feeling that is what was going on....
I too recently purchased an HP printer, p2035 (black & white). It was a nice compact fast laser printer, however after printing 5 packages the toner was empty. I thought I had it on economy mode, and I needed to print 2 more packages, so I went out a bought a new toner cartridge. The clerk at staples stated that the cartridge that comes with the printer when you purchase it, is short filled..... anyway... after printing 10 packages with the new toner cartridge again it was empty, and without notice. So I packed that bad boy up and returned it to Fry's It was going to cost me at least $90 a week at that rate and I can't afford that. I'm still looking for a good high speed black & white laser printer that won't cost an arm & leg to replace the toner. Any suggestions???? Always appreciated.

I have a Brother 5140 and a 5150. They use the same drum and toner. Both are 5 years old. A lot of people don't like them. The replace drum light comes on at 20,000 pages, but I just reset the light and keep printing until I notice a quality problem. That has been north of 80,000 pages for my 5150. I find the toner cartridges easy to refil, also.
I believe that most people prefer the HP's though.

HP is sneaky indeed. I've noticed that the new models are too new for compatible remanufactured cartridges. I had several HP's & ran into too many tech issues. I'm now using a Brother HL-5250 DNT (dual tray). It's fast & fairly economical for cartridges/drums. I get the high-yield TN-580 compatible cartridge & it lasts about a month or more. I don't have a page count, but I do 30 plus packages per month. I also use LD Products/4 Inkets for cartridges. Good luck.
