I can't believe my 2nd HP Laser Jet P2015 died......

Has anyone had the same horrible experience I did with the P2015? My first one stopped working without warning last year and then I replaced it with a discontinued floor model and after less than a year the floor model died. I got stuck last minute running to Staples to get a new one. Lucky it wasn't month and the borrowers were very flexible.

I have now taken a chance with the HP LaserJet P2035 which is the replacement for it. Hopefully I have better luck this time.

I can't believe my 2nd HP Laser Jet P2015 died......

I have a 2200 dual tray that I bought used on eBay (from a guy that sells and maintains them). I am keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts for a while because the dual tray is GREAT! Still, I keep my 3015 All-in-One hooked up to the system as a backup. In fact, sometimes I send the Title Company set of documents to the 2200 and send the Borrowers copy (in 8 1/2 by 11) to the 3015 and have both printers going at the same time! Gets me out the door FAST when I have to come back from one signing and print the docs for the next and RUN out the door to the next because they weren't ready earlier. Which happens, hmmm, 99.99% of the time!?

What I am wondering is that I see a lot of people like the 2015. What I haven't been able to figure out is - for all the numbers in the series: 2015, 2050, 2100, 2150, 2200, 2300, 2450 and all the numbers in between - is one or more FASTER than the others??? Then there is the 4200 and on up in that series. I have looked online and at the HP site and there seems to be conflicting information. Is there one place to get the ACCURATE ppm for each printer, including the second tray info?

I ASSUME that I will need to replace this one at some time BUT if I find a good deal on another used one in good shape, will it be faster or slower or ????

I use the HP P2015dn and it will be 2 years old in November.

I purchased it new and so far no problems at all. As a rule I only use it to print docs. I use my 1200 for all other printing, AND for printing 8 1/2 x 11 docs for loans when possible. I guess what I'm saying is that I try to give the 2015dn a rest when I can. (I do inspections, process serving and mystery shops so I'm printing all the time.)

HATED IT

I've got no idea how anyone who does our job can like this cheap little machine. I bought it on an emergency run spring 2008 (!?*&^ cat). You can't even fill it with paper and walk away and have your package printed when you return ... it holds very little paper. It truly feels like a cheap little toy for children. Printing takes WAY too long when you are busy.

Re: HATED IT

I have 3 refurbished HP 4100n. They are workhorses. They hold whole reams of paper and yes I can walk away and return with a completely printed pkg. I just bought 2 more and they were $45 each.

me too

I don't know what the "n" is for but I've also used a 4100 for years (exception for the 1ish year I used the )(*&^ 2015). Replaced that with another 4100 - a WORLD of difference.

4100 etc.

I've been doing some searching on and off for printers online and have ended up very frustrated. I've been concerned about the 4100 having less memory and not being able to get printer drivers to run in on Vista. Also, while it's a workhorse, it's older technology and I've already run into some challenges with older printers on a newer pc. Anyone have any issues with this?

Unfortunately, it seems to me that with newer HP printers there is an inverse relationship these days between print speed and max page capacity (or duty cycle), which I've assumed to be a gage of how hard it can work without breaking down from over use - unless you get into the very pricey ones. Even the more expensive models don't seem to have the volume capacity as the old standbys. I keep hoping that if I'm able to wait long enough, they'll come out with something new that will meet all my requirements, but the trend seems to be going in the wrong direction!

[BTW Sue, I think the "n" indicates it includes a network card, but I'm not 100% certain. Others will likely be able to confirm/correct.]

Apparently has problems with formatter board

This was a review I came across on Amazon.com:

"After having worked flawlessly for 19 months, this printer stopped working properly. Sometimes it displays the paper jam and toner warning lights and won't print, even when there's no jam and plenty of toner; sometimes it prints one job successfully after restarting it, only to stop working after that; sometimes it prints only one page of a multi-page job; sometimes *no* LEDs are lit even when the power is on; sometimes it shows up as "offline" on my Mac (OS X 10.5.6) even when connected directly to my USB port and its power is on.

I called HP Tech Support and spoke with a technician who troubleshot with me and told me this was a problem with the formatter board, and that is was a known issue. He said it affected 10-20% (!) of all P2015's, but that, since my printer is out of warranty, HP would charge me $260 (incl. shipping) to repair it. (For what it's worth, he said the P2035 and P2055 are "excellent printers" and that only "1-2%" are sent back for servicing.)"

So hopefully I have better luck with the P2035 I just purchased...
