My Oki printer is like a clingy girlfriend

I've got a C5150N that I've had for 4 years / 45,552 miles. I need the color for other endeavours and it's a workhorse, I really can't complain.

In black it's not quite as fast as my Brother, but I can let a package rip and do something else (have to stay in the room cause I didn't invest in a second legal tray, I use the 30 page aux tray) Other than feed it paper, off it goes. My Brother, on the other hand, twice as fast... but after about page 16 it starts throwing paper on the floor. @#$%^&!

Okay... so the clingy girlfriend part... it ALWAYS is flashing me a message that this that or the other needs replacing soon.

This last time it was the fuser. I've been working with laser printers since the HP LaserJet Nothing (the one that come before the LaserJet 2). In that time I've seen 2 fusers broken by aggressive paper unjamming. But I have never, never ever seen one wear out.

My printer was still fusing quite nicely thank you. But it begged, it harrassed and from time to time it would go on strike... gotta open the cover and close the cover, then it would just remind for another week.

I gave it. It now has a new fuser with 99% of it's life. (Hmmm... old fuser fuses 45k pages, print one test page on new fuser and 1% life gone????)

But okay, now I've done it. It should be happy. Sure enough, it is.

So I go through the rest of the usage menu just to check... This toner 70%, that toner 46... (remember it has 4 drums/toners) Drums all 51% except black 14... so far so good.

Image belt 3% life left!!!!!

So I get my credit card and back to the flower shop I go... but I lover her anyway.

Gary regarding your Brother printer

I have several Brothers dual tray printers. My 8440 wants to throw paper on the floor. My solution is to put a piece of card board that fits tight in the paper slot after the first page is printed. Just slip it under the page and the the pages will remain in place. I have had this printer 6 years. I also have a 8870, don't have this problem and neither does my 8860.

Hope this works.
