Re: No need to invoice?...yep...I've had that happen
I do the same, Linda. I find that booking direct with a TC they "usually" want the Invoice, usually in the FedEx or via fax or email. However, some TCs work their signings the same as a SS. SS want them faxed or emailed, or some pay no attention to that and don't want it so long, as you do the completion report on their site.
When I make up the Invoice, even if that's gonna be for my own personal use, I NOTE ON the Invoice that I filled out the completion report, or whatever they wanted me to do to get paid, ON the Invoice, so I know that I've done what they asked me to do. I can't remember from one signing to the next what I was supposed to do, so my quick reference is MY Invoice. It tells me I did what I was supposed to do to get paid. Also, I attach EVERY instruction do to MY Invoice, as well as emails concerning the signing. I don't want to have to go back to look through hundreds of emails to run one down if they don't pay me timely. I also have them there in case the IRS ever wants to see my books. My mileage is always noted on my docs so I can take that off, and I don't have to go calculate that at the end of the year. I also write the mileage in my Notary Journal, as I take off every 1/10th of a mile that I can.

All the time for me...
They always tell me there's no need to invoice. Like Linda, I always generate one anyway. Unless the specifically tell me not to invoice, I send one in.
The one service that calls me the most often has a web based purchase order system and my invoice is basically their purchase order.

There are actually many companies I don't need to invoice. All the ss on the "coffee" site use the completion report to pay from. I use QuickBooks Simple Start, and create an invoice for every transaction for my records. Some invoices I include with the package, some I email, some I fax (according to each company's requirements).
