OT: What we have to look forward to

I had a signing last night at the police station. The signing was at 8 PM and temp was still in the high 90's. I called the young lady ( a police officer) and she said she'd be right there. I waited 1/2 hour for her to show. By the time she showed I was ready to pass out. In between signing the various pages, she was busy texting someone. If this is the new generation of police officers, we are in a lot of trouble.

California passed a law making it illegal to use a hand held cellphone while driving. Just about every police/sherrif/highway patrol car I pass has a driver with a cell up to their ear.

They passed that law in CT several years ago

4 or 5......but law enforcement/first responders, etc were exempt....maybe that's how CA wrote the bill too..

That's in the CA law also,

Emergency personnel and any citizen in an emergency situation.

Still seemed like a stupid law to me as we already had a "Driving while distracted" law which would have covered the cell phones also. Unfortunately, neither law appears to be enforced. I see all kinds talking on cell phones, reading books, putting on makeup, texting, blowdrying their hair, shaving ...............

I think I'd have told her I'd be happy to come back when she had time to focus on the paperwork and then started to gather the docs together.
