It really depends on your geographic area. I am in an area that has few notaries and also a very high cost of living so I have perhaps in some cases higher than other areas. My typical fee is $125 for e docs and $100 for overnight docs. I am willing to negotiate to a certain extent but that is the market rate in my area and many other areas as well. Hope that helps.

I lost track years ago of how many HUD's I have reviewed in my regular business but the normal notary feea in my area generally run 125-225 with 150-175 around the median. After I added Notary Services to my website, I started picking up a little of the local business and chose a low-median fee. Local attorneys were happy to find someone centrally located with a reasonable fee and had their couriers deliver the hard package to me at least a day before the scheduled closing.
The first call I got from a national company was a real eye opener. They wanted to pay me $80 and print my own packages! I did not need to get out a calculator to figure how fast I can go broke wasting my time on that action so I declined. A half hour later they called again more willing to be reasonable and I ended up letting them talk me down a little, but after I found out the aggravation entailed I regretted it, especially when I saw they were collecting $400 on the HUD.
The average travel time in my area is about an hour. The only way I would do a closing under $100 is if the client bring the package to me all ready to sign on my own premises. I cannot understand how some people are willing to work basically for free but only about half of the low-ball companies call me back to meet my fee so I guess the others are finding someone. I do not close every call, but at least I get paid for the ones I do. The calls seem to come in batches anyway so I really do not think I am losing out on any money by pricing myself 'competitive'.
