Reassurance
I had a message from a title co about a nearby signing this evening. The only thing I found on them was an inquirery back in 06 which was answered with a private message. I called and said that I had not worked for them or heard of them and would like more info. I was asked why , to which I replied that I wanted to make sure I would get paid. well yes you would and then I asked about awebsite and was informed that if I needed that kind of reassurance that they would get another notary. Broke my little heart.

If I got a call from a TC and didn't know them and couldn't find info on them, I would accept the assignment. 1. If you are a regular reader on this forum, you would recognize 95% of the deadbeat TC/SSs. 2. If you eliminate the ones you recognize as deadbeats, the chances probable are >95% that you will have no trouble getting paid. 3. You may have missed a chance to get a new client and future work. 4. I'd risk a 5% chance of having trouble getting paid vs getting a new TC client. 5. At EOM the TC is probable quite busy (otherwise would have called a SA they had delt with before) and couldn't take the time to answer your questions.

For the most part I agree with you, The one thing that made me uncomfortable was that the only reply was a private message. I may be wrong, but it seems that avenue is used when posters don't want to be seen as slamming a company in public.

I can see why you may think that. The PM also could have been " great TC to work with - pay a great fee and pay in 2 weeks. Its a small TC so don't spread the word - I don't want competion to low ball me."
I'm a born optimist.
