What do you do with...

I purchased HP12 toner ink cartridges from DL products. I love them but I do not know what to do with the empty cartridges now. I know they can be refilled. I used to use a return them to the shop I got my refills from. Do I now send them to DL to refill? That would be a lot of extra cost. I could take them to Office Depot and get 3 bucks for them. That seams cheep because they are HPs and worth a lot more then that. If you have ideas I would love to hear them. TIA.

OR, do you have an E-Bay account?

If so, you might have some luck selling the there as there are people who will buy them, refill and sell them.I bought some empty ones for my brother laser printer that were empty and refilled them myself.Just a thought.

Some companies will buy them

Nothing much than a pittance, but it's something.
Google "sell empty toner cartridge" for a multitude of companies.

Here's one such company:

Why don't you refill them yourself and save even more money?

Re: What do you do with...I compared company's

Thank you great point. If I can find a refill kit that is less expensive I think I will try that. Then I can take them to Office depot for my 3 bucks each.
LD toners cartridges are a lot lot cheaper. They are the about the same price filled as the refill kit was from the company linked to. You may want to check them out. http://www.ldproducts.com.

For my HP 2430, dual tray, as well as all the previous

HPs I used over the last six years, I used to refill until early this year. Actually, for about three years or so, Earl, the Toner Guy here in town, refilled, cleaned up, picked up and delivered, was my source. He was a jewel, and tried very hard. But - I began having problems with the refills not communicating with the printer.

Turns out, he used aftermarket chips ($12.50) - had to have a new chip, because original chip would show "out of toner" and wouldn't work until replaced. The replacement chips were hit and miss, as the chips were 'untested'. Finally, a bad one FRIED my HP2430. Had to replace. Every penny I saved by refilling was wiped out getting another printer.

Bottom line for me, and I have to admit that I haven't priced 'tested' chips, I return cartridges to Staples for a pittance, and pay for the good stuff.

Recycling cartridges has been an issue with me also. LD will take them, but you have to ship back to your own expense. Also, it is supposed to be the policy of Office Depot to not accept or issue credit for remanufactured cartridges. If you're able to get away with that you're in luck. I also can't see them ending up in a landfill. Interesting story: In the beginning I was using mfg. HP cartridges & was impressed that they included a return label for recycling. Then a local toner refill co. showed me an article in a trade magazine that showed a huge mountain of HP cartridges that they had dumped, creating a carbon nightmare. I don't refill, but have to admire those who do.

Re: I realy do agree with the whole refill thing

Could be a big mess. Knowing my luck I would run out in the middle of printing up a loan and run out of ink and what a mess it would turn into. I would be hating myself then for even thinking about refilling them. I have been recycling them already. But it doesn't hurt to get some input. I hate the fact that they may end up in a land fill too. I will ask Office depot when I go in there next time what they do with them. Thanks

Here's their policy off their FAQ page

Do you buy back empty cartridges?

We currently do not require customers to send in empties as an exchange in order to get our low prices as some of our competitors do. We do accept some empty cartridges and pass them on to our recycling partners and suppliers. It helps keeps our costs down and retail prices low as you can see from our advertised prices. If you wish to help recycle cartridges please email [e-mail address] with your mailing address and if you have inkjet or toner cartridges that we can recycle, we can have a prepaid recycling label mailed out to you.

We cannot take every type of cartridge back, so please specify what kind of empty cartridge you have. Please state the cartridge number, if it is an original empty OEM cartridge or a remanufactured empty cartridge, and the quantity of empties that you have. This will help keep our cost on shipping low. If they are remanufactured empties, please collect around eight to ten cartridges and we can mail out a label right away. Be sure to email us your address so that we can have a label sent out once you have collected enough cartridges. If you have any further questions send us an email or call the toll free number listed below. Your prepaid recycle information should arrive in the mail about a 10 days after we respond to your email.
