employee verification letter
I have been asked to notarize this letter I have not spoken to the client yet to see what it is,does anyone know if this is a straight forward notarization or is it something I would need to pass a special test to be authorized for? Thanks

You can notarize the signature on almost any and every document presented to you. (Those you cannot, are explained in your state notary manual.) You need not concern yourself with the content of the document, only the notarization request: acknowledgment or oath (jurat). Once the document is presented to you, scan through it and pay special attention to the signature area and the notary certificate that should already be there. If there is no certificate on the document, you must ask the signer which one is needed. You may have to explain what an acknowledgment and oath are, so the signer can make an informed decision. The decision is not yours to make. After you are told what is needed, then you perform your notarization; take an acknowledgment or give an oath. Finally, you would complete the appropriate certificate, attaching one if necessary.

From the title of the thread it sounds like a simple verification from the employer that an individual works for that company. Shouldn't be but one page doc with an acknowledgment. Sounds like a piece of cake. No special training or passing any test....just have him sign and put your siggy and stamp on there and mail it back.

Tests? We do need no tests!
It doesn't matter what's in the letter - you're notarizing a signature, and what's in the document is not your concern. As long as it includes a valid notarial certificate for your state, you're good to go.

Thank you for the replies,I do understand my role as a notary. The reason I asked the question is somewhere in my memory that I have forgotten about employee verification letters, there was special training but maybe it was just training for a certain company ,like I said I just can't pull it out of the old noggen at this point. Thanks

Re: employee verification letter...Della
are you maybe thinking of the TEA training? Search TEA or Trusted Enrollment Agent here - that may be what you're thinking of...
Good Luck.

Sounds like an I9 form. Very easy if that is what it is.

If you are merely notarizing someone's signature (ack or jurat), you should be good to go. But make sure it's not some deal where they are asking YOU to verify some set of facts.
