notarization or loan signing?

I need some opinions. I've been told by a signing service that many, many signing agents across the country are doing these modifications for the sum total of $25. The packages are approximately 14 pages long.

I'm told there are dozens of agents who do these for $25. Who is doing these for $25?

I had a company advise me that they pay $35 for a loan mod. I told them I wouldn't walk out my door for less than $50 unless I could walk to the assignment. They said they couldn't, I said - well, let me tell you my fee for where you want me to go (25 miles away one way). When I told them my fee, I can only imagine that the phone line was disconnected - I just can't imagine someone would hang up on me when they are given a fair price...hehehe

I truthfully and legally can get more from general notarization work than $25!

I only do them direct for borrowers for $25. No printing.
Payment is COD in cash, and usually 1-2 notaizations in packages about 5 or less pages.

It doesn't pay to walk out the door for $25.00, I've got better things to do.

Sometimes I take an I-9 for $25 if it is an area that I know I will be shopping or on my way. I figure it pays the gas and some of my groceries, etc. for what I am going to be doing anyway. They are flexible for time, so my choice/convenience.

This does not happen in this area. Our fee is $75 which includes e-docs and up to 20 miles for this type of appointment.

It's often a way to pressure you into taking assignments for low fees--telling you there are many agents who work for that. The fact still remains that it's your business & you decide if you can accept an assignment for that kind of money. I've done a couple for a document service company--they overnight all the docs (no printing), I schedule at my convenience, etc. I got hung up on one yesterday & instead of taking 10 minutes I was there almost an hour. I won't take them for less than $50 from now on. Not that it matters to us, but many of these mods are being done at no cost.

I got my first modification this week. They offered $60 and I countered slightly higher. They did an exception approval and agreed to my fee. It was 21 pages. None of the documents required notarization. Given that it was 5 miles away and I did not have to notarize, $60 would have been fair.

To PAW. No, I did not offer a refund. As I stated their client cancelled.

Re: Did you offer a refund?

That was a rhetorical question. Besides, you did not mention that the client canceled. You said:

You are absolutely correct. That was a case of my brain moving faster than my fingers. I intended to add that fact in closing. But I don't think I would have refunded. :-)

click on mae's name as she is linked to her profile - see for yourself. You are not. When you post a reply, comment, etc., there is a box next to author box: if it is checked your name appears small blue w/blue box - ahaaa - now you understand the diff!

I don't care what other notaries charge

I have my fee schedule and I stick to it.
