Faxbacks
Just got a signing order that includes a list of 27, yes 27, documents to be faxed back, and then you are to wait for approval. If approved, they will email you a FedEx label. What a waste of my time and money as well as every one else's.
In what universe does this make things efficient? Maybe if you only hire inexperienced NSAs and pay them very little so the risk of mistakes is relatively high, but if you hire an experienced NSA after reviewing their profile in NOTROT and pay them their higher fee based on the known performance factors why have to make the NSA go through this wasteful process. Besides, what am I going to do with a FedEx label other than use it to send the documents back that makes it important to keep secret until everything on the 27 item list has been reviewed?

Same day fundings
My fee includes a scan back of the executed package for all same day funding closings I facilitate.
The only time I don't scan back a same day funding package is when it is impossible to overnight docs IF I have to return to the office to scan.

Increase your fee to offset the extra service requirements. It really is just that simple in my opinion.

It's great to just say "increase your fee" but in a competitive environment that's not always possible. When NOTROT shows that there are 250+ Notaries in my area you have to work within the "market prices" available. Sure, I control what price I will accept, but not what price they are willing to pay me.

I certainly wouldn't base an assumption on experience and quality on the profile in any database. We've all seen the embellished profiles. I do agree that experience and quality stated is easily proved, but you just can't take someone's word for it and go on blind faith.

Paul, it is possible for a SS or other hiring agency to "survey" the profiles and then contact the NSA and discuss the NSA's listed experience directly with them to satisfy themselves that they want to do business together. Sure, like almost all "resumes" there are statements that may be somewhat less than the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, but it's certainly a place to start from.

agree with Paul
I have been 'interviewed' only a handful of times throughout the years.
Sad to say my last 'interview' where she was so picky about who she was sending out got me perhaps 6ish weeks of work. Because I didn't backdate, I lost the client.

Re: agree with Paul
I just did a closing for a title company that included a notice saying that effective immediately every package that closes in evening of Thursday or Friday has to be entirely faxed back. And this is an fha loan.I wasn't even told this. And, in the past I have tried to get extra for faxing they won't budge. The problem is that this is the only company that I get volume from. So, I am stuck.

seems you're talking SL who is now a low baller in most areas .... oh the days when SL paid $150 FOR OVERNIGHT DOCS ... but I digress. ... With the right equipment this is not a problem. Put the package on the machine, it will go through in minutes and that's it. You're in business ... purchase the proper equipment to do the job.
By the way, they are a vendor management company, not a title company ... A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

Scanners are CHEAP
You can scan and email the whole package in a lot less time than faxing, without tying up your land line. Besides that, who has a land line anymore?

I thought that direct Tv was satellite? Is there cable tv via phone lines? Wow! I learned something new (and interesting) today!

That's just for PPV right?
I just got DirecTV with my new place since we can't get Fios here yet(sigh!) and the only reason I you should need a land line for your box is to purchase PPV movies and such.

Re: That's just for PPV right?
Supposedly, as we were told, you need to be hooked into a land line at all times - we don't do PPV (and don't think it would apply now as you can order them online now) but they check your card once/month for billing. They do that via the telephone.
So they told us..

Re: That's just for PPV right?
When I was having my dish installed the Verizon guy was over hooking up the land line and DSL and the DirecTV guy wanted me to get the Verizon installer to put in a new jack by the TV...When I asked why, he said it would make that box the primary box and allow us to order PPV and other On Demand items from there...
I passed on it and mine works perfectly fine..never hooked up the box to a land line even once yet.

me too - I've got home and business land lines. I am actually very surprised that so many can run a business without a land line. Some of the C-wide/BOA loans have employment verification forms included and they actually state something along the if you're self employed and your business phone isn't listed the loan is to be denied.

I've been lucky lately
It seems TC's aren't asking for fax backs. Maybe more trust there? That means they get 2 sets of docs. Unless it's a SS. That would be the only difference. They want to CYA before you send it to the TC. All i've ever been asked to fax back is the TIL, HUD, Note, notarized page of the mortgage. That isn't too bad. But never the entire package.

Re: I've been lucky lately
A-1 Signing Agents, same here I rarely get a fax back request anymore. I think companies are just to busy. What surprises me that a notary doesn't ask when when they get that first call from a company. What's the zip code, time, pkg. size or lenders name, are there any fax backs if so how many pages. Then you can schedule your other appointments accordingly. If it's a large fax back pkg you would have to charge the company extra or as it was said before in above discussion just don't take the job. It is very time consuming and companies should be charged extra.

I just got a Cannon MF 4370 and like it very much. It does everything, and prints 2 sided. You can hook it up to your network as well. I paid $299.00 for it.
