Getting Started

I am a certifed notary signing agent in VA since August, 2008. I have completed several signings for a company called Notary Assurance but it didn't come through NR. How can I start getting assignments through NR. I would like to do about four signing a day. Am I being realistic in VA?

Try message 33325 for starters. I also sent you a p/m.

In a word... no, that's not realistic. I've been doing this since 2005 here in VA - during 2007 and 2008 there was hardly any business and I would have been LUCKY to get 4 per WEEK. It's been busier in 2009 since rates came down a few months ago but there is no way you will be able to get 4 per day (which = 80 per month) unless of course you have some special "in" with someone at a very busy title company. Just starting out, you will do well to get 10 total per month.

I would love to have 4 per day myself... not there yet!

If you want assignments through Notary Rotary, all you have to do is create a profile for yourself. You must have already done that since you posted on the forum. Paying for a listing will get you higher on the list and you will get called before someone who is lower on the list.

Someone just starting out would be really lucky to get 4 a month, if you ask me. Obviously, that would depend on the saturation of notaries and how they marketed. But just popping up a profile on NotRot isn't going to make the phone ring on its' own.

But then... I'm thinking from a CA perspective, not VA.

Your perception is right on. That area of Va is full of notaries. New notaries anywhere will have a tough time in todays market Too many experienced ones out beating the streets trying to drum up new business. That being said, good luck to all.

Best of luck. I do get calls. Not from the right people though. That is one of the many reasons i'm so thankful for NR. I got to SC and I end up calling back to decline. They get so offended. The people that post are all liars. Go figure.

Try looking at Msg #287503. That's a seasoned veteran giving it up.

I would also like to do four signings a day - who wouldn't? Try four signings a month. I hate to say it but you'll get the "tough ones" (lot's a work, low fee) until you prove yourself. Also, get ready to wait weeks to get paid. There are lots of companies more than happy to send you work but have a lazy pen.
