Here's a fun mess...
Got an emergency call for a closing on a purchase. First notary was suppose to show to meet bwr at 3:30pm. NO show, no call. nada. I get the call an hour ago. I can take it... get the docs and what a mess.
The street address of the property is spelled wrong almost entirely through the pkg, spelled at least 2 different ways. Even the DOT has the address spelled differently two ways within itself! Bwrs name is spelled oddly and hand corrected all over the place in the scans.
Really hilarious is that on the 2324 (New Loan Payment Form) the property address is listed one way, and right below it is the mailing address listed the other way!
Is anyone surprised to learn it's a BofA loan?
I have instructions on how they want me to handle it, no problem. I just found it hilarious. How can there be no QC on these docs?

Oh yes if you mess up this you will penalized $ 20 dollars if you this and that you will be deducted more cash, BUT NOW WHEN THEY MESS UP, and we have to correct all their errors NOW WHAT? Our fee stays the same right? Life is not fair, LOL.

Oh, it gets worse...
So it's 12:30am and I just got back.
Sweet, young newlywed couple... first home purchase. Okay, that always means a little more time. No problem. I allotted for that.
Because it was a short-notice appointment, with the original notary never showing up (Strike 1), I didn't completely review the package...just printed and scanned it over. Thought I was looking at the HUD-1, but it was a GFE instead. At the appt, bwr wanted to see the final HUD. There was none provided. Of course...nobody answers the phones. (Strike 2) Looking like a no-sign... she calls her RE agent who explained some things I could not. It worked, I guess... bwr agrees to sign afterall.
GFE, and everybody bwr spoke with told her her property taxes would be X. But, all others docs have the taxes as more than double, increasing monthly payment aby about $150 a month. Strike 3... but it isn't baseball, thankfully. Again, close to a no-sign... she calls her agent a second time... who insists that the property tax calculation is wrong, and that there were apparently some other issue with the escrow company and they shouldn't worry.
Well, they worried. Refused to sign anything that involved the higher payment. Wrote notes for those pages.
Husband goes to the county assessor's website, and calculates the property tax... and the county's supports what the GFE, the agent and the loan officer had all already quoted. Printed a copy of that to add to their notes.
OH... but going back to the first problem... where the street name is spelled differently? Yeah. The county has it spelled with an "E"... but the loan (escrow?) officer insists that it's with an "I" -- and instructed the bwr to correct all of the "E" spellings to "I" and initial. Remember that the DOT itself has both spellings, too. Fun!
So, we do as instructed... all the "E"'s were changed to "I"'s -- even though the county and the USPS indicate that the street name should be "E". Bwr prints all of this out and adds it to their notes.
And that's just the first 2 hours.
I have a bad feeling this might get re-drawn.

Re: Oh, it gets worse...
I take it there wasn't a correction agreement or LPOA for corrections?
Your story makes me feel lots better about the one I had this evening. The HUD had an extra several thou for up-front for PMI in addition to the monthly MIP impound. Trying to add it all up, one of them kept confusing that amount with the downpayment, etc. Couldn't reach their LO, but fortunately he's a friend, so they signed anyway -- eventually.
I got home much earlier, but I've been working on printing a bunch of messed up docs for appts tomorrow. (I'll spare you the details.) However, I got motivated to finally create a spread sheet of client goof-ups that I found for them and helped get fixed. If they ever catch me with something wrong, I'll have plenty of ammunition to reply with!

Re: Oh, it gets worse...
It can make you feel better to keep the log, and let them know that you fixed things, but, sadly the bottom line is that you are only as "good" as your last closing.
