I just replaced my embosser insert...

Does anyone else keep one of those any more?

I just like to have one...maybe for old time's sake?

And the occasional client who requests it.

I have an embosser, but rarely use it. Also have a small collection of old embossers, most found on eBay...

I'm getting another (my 3rd) insert. I use the embosser almost every day for international documents. Even though the rubber stamp is the "official" seal in Florida, I additionally use the embosser on documents that have an apostille and/or legalization documents attached.

"apostille ... attached"

Do you mean that an apostille will be requested for? In Texas the apostille is requested from Authentications Unit of the secretary of state. I guess I'm confused.

Re: I just replaced my embosser insert...Paul

I provide Apostille and Document Legalization processing for some international clients. The documents destined for use overseas (England, Japan, Kuwait, etc.) all need to be processed by the FL SOS. Prior to that, a "certified copy" is made, stamped and embossed, then sent off to the FL SOS. Many documents do not get an Apostille, so they must be further authenticated and legalized by the US Dept. of State and either an Embassy or Consulate of the target country. Most of the countries want the notarized copies to have a raised (embossed) seal.

The last sentence in my previous post should have read "... on documents that have TO HAVE an apostille and/or legalization documents attached."

Still confused?

I'm ordering a new one from NotRot as I just got my commission renewed. I have a desktop embosser and a pocket one and I just trade the insert between the two. I use it mostly for international stuff like PAW and it seems I use it a lot. Some country's bureaucrats still like the embosser and the gold seal and a piece of grosgrain ribbon just to make sure its a real notary and not some kid playing notary with a rubber stamp Smile

I have one and have used it several times. International documents are common...especially with adoption papers.

I also get a few people who don't feel like they get what they've paid for unless I do the gold seal bit. It's a tactile thing.

I'm about to order a round seal in purple ink that is reminiscent of an embosser. People seem to respond to that better for some reason. I'll likely reserve this for general notary work rather than loans. Title/Escrow people are too fussy.

I actually have two embossers. One is my seal, the other is one I designed with my initials that is unique to me. I use this as a security embossment for some loose certificates. I'm one of those neurotic types who does not like to use a loose cert because it increases the risk of fraud. So, all of my loose certs are ones I designed myself, and each one has a serial number on it that I reference in the journal. Obviusly, that's also for general notary work.
