Information anyone?
Hello Everyone!....I was recently laid off my 9 to 5 a few months ago and in turn began collecting unemployment. I stopped taking signings because I wasn't sure if I was allowed to take on jobs while collecting. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not a person can take on signings on this side while collecting unemployment because unemployments just doesn't cut all the bills. It's also frustrating because I get calls everyday for new jobs that I'm not sure whether I should take or not and I don't want to do anything that there may be a penalty for in the end. If anyone has any information that may help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I believe earnings allowances vary from state to state. You would need to contact your local unemployment office and ask how much you can earn while collecting unemployment, without being penalized. Hope this helps.

Hi Gina, We're in NJ and we're in the same situation. Once you get actually get your check in the mail, claim it on the automated system (we use the phone - not the website) when it asks if you did any commission or self-employment work. I believe your next check from the State of NJ will go down by the amount of the check you received from the signing company.(Or if you received two or more checks in one NJ claim time-period, the total of all of them combined).
It shouldn't be a problem countinuing to claim benefits from NJ - we're still doing it. Hope this helps - good luck.

In PA you could not
collect unemployment comp benefits and do "signing" work on the side. I'D BE VERY CAREFUL. Self-employed individuals can never collect here - so even if you erned the money and paid into the fund and qualify, the self-employment would disqualify you. Earning money at a "regular" job to supplement is permitted.
