UPS is cracking down on ''anonymous" senders...
Just got back from my UPS store and they have a new sign up that says they will longer offer blank airbills and shipping supplies to customers due to the "high amount of fraud". basically, all of the blank airbills they'd give out at the store were traced back to that store's account, and they were being stuck with the charges. So, now...if you want to ship out, you can fill out a blank airbill, but they will charge your UPS account or get cash upfront for the shipment. Either that or you have to supply the airbill yourself by ordering your own supplies through your own account. I'm not sure if this is restricted to the one store or not...I didn't ask them that.
This explains why I had such a tough time sending a package out last Saturday. The account number I was given was not being confirmed so they couldn't charge it, and they would not ship until the charge went through. As it turns out, in order to make that charge, you have to provide certain billing information... and if the billing address doesn't match you give them for the recipient/third-party...no go.
The impression I got, though, was that this is going to become a compnay-wide deal, and that you won't be able to just grab blank airbills from boxes anymore. You'll have to provide your own or pay for them upfront.
