Under Payment/Over Payment

Did a loan on 05/01/09 and lender forgot one doc. Agreed to go back to have doc signed and was told that they would just increase my fee by an additional $$$$$. Received the check & it did not include the extra money for the second trip. Well, got another check in the mail on Thursday will another full fee. I tried calling & they said to send an e-mail. I sent an e-mail & no reply. At this point, I'm overpaid.

Cash the second check, wait 90 days, then send them a check back for the overage.

Why?? If the second check is an overpayment just send it back with a note...why cash and wait??

Because it wasn't a complete overpayment. They owed her something for 2nd trip. Tho' I don't understand waiting 90 days...checks clear in 10 (but banks never will tell you 'it cleared', so wait 15).

90 days was a joke. Some like to hold the notaries money for 90 days.

It's early. Not enough coffee. As I hit 'post', it registered in slow brain.

Well I thought it was funny....

Unless they aren't the type to make you wait 90 days for payment.

I would cash it and reimburse the difference

Re: Well I thought it was funny....

I would deposit both checks. Then provide them with a 'credit memo' for the overage. That way you can use the difference for float and they would be more inclined to provide you with another assignment.

Re: Well I also thought it was funny....

I tend to agree with Paw - carry a credit balance for them unless they specifically ask for balance.
