for all newbies
I Had taken a free course yesterday through Our Secretary of State, and I realized that I have been a notary for 5 years, and it is amazing how much I didn't know, I thought I had Learned everything I needed, but One thing anyone needs to remember different states do have different laws . I was asking before, if it is needed to take a certification course, because being a RE agent I know my loan docs very well and how to explain them, but after taking that class I was wondering what I am missing. I am definitly going to send a letter to my legislater that every one needs to pass a basic course before becoming a notary, it is amazing how easy it is to get a commission and not know anything.

You go girl, let's get everyone certified through NNA, and then bonded through NNA and while we are at it, BGC through NNA. I don't know what state you are from but I do believe that states still have the ability to control their notary public's in the way they see fit. It is amazing to me that anyone can pass a RE agent license without knowing how to spell legislator (particularity when spell check is offered).

Spell check is automatic, sadly grammar and capitalization is not. Not sure what the panic was but you really do not need to concern yourself with other state laws...only your own.

If you are going to criticize another poster's spelling, your credibility will be served by getting your own spelling right. The plural of notary public is notaries public, not notary public's. Also, lose the apostrophe when pluralizing.
Not to pick on you, just returning the favor you did for the original poster. I'm smiling as I type this. If I knew how to use those smiley faces, I would stick one in here. I hope I didn't misspell anything in this post.

I totally agree with you. I go to Phx once a year to update myself. By the way, each course instructor is different. Also, the class you just took is very different from the one I took last December. It has changed, for the worse. Mandatory education should go hand in hand with a fee increase. Sadly, it will not. PM me for more info.

Don't forget your function is a LOT different than that of the rest of the country. I am in awe of you guys and a bit jealous---wish I had the authority you have but don't know if I want to work THAT hard.

It's a state specific process. Some states will let anyone idiot become a notary.
SOme states have some really strict education and exam guidelines. I'm pretty sure that California, Lousiana and maybe Florida are the toughest.
But even in California, a bunch of idiots manage to pass the exam through dumb luck. I really, really want to see them raise the passing score to 85%. That will weed out the lucky ones and the ones who think they know everything after a 6-hour seminar.

In GA the biggest challenge is knowing which hand to raise
when the clerk begins to give you the oath by saying, "Raise your right hand". Once you get past that, it's all down hill.

In WI
You have to find another notary to give you the oath.
