Countrywide/First Bank of America
I have a question; when you receive docs from this bank and they have a sheet in the packet that says so many pages print on letter and so many pages print on legal. Well I do not have a dual tray. So do you go ahead and print everything on legal? I was wondering if anyone else ran into this problem. I think I just ruined my chances with SS company.

I don't think you will be discarded for printing on all legal as long as the dot is recordable. The big problem is the font too small i.e. a legal on letter page.

I do a lot of B of A Docs and the issue with them appears to be, all recordable Docs must be letter size or they have to pay a extra fee, usually 3.00 dollars. The TC will usually cut them down to letter size if need be. That's been my experience with them.

IF your printer has an MP tray, that can be used
like an additional paper tray for dual printing. And I think most people without dual trays/MP trays use all legal rather than go through the hassle of switching papers manually.

I just print all docs on legal but now I have an extra printer where I can use one for legal and one for letter. Is it possible when you are printing a package to say print legal to this printer and print letter to this printer?

I only have one printer, I guess I will have to invest in another printer.

I assume the printer you're using is a laser? If it works well enough for you, I don't think you really NEED to buy another just to do letter-size. You'd be better off buying a good laser with a double drawer - more to save yourself money than anything. Letter size is a lot cheaper than legal.
It would be nice, however, if you'd just print the mortgage & any mortgage riders on letter (if that's how they're formatted), and any other recordable document (deeds, etc).

All legal all the time, unless DOT needs to be letter
I buy legal for $2.00 to $2.50 a ream at a surplus store, so there is no price difference to speak of.

Where do you buy the paper at such a good price. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I have the Brother MFC 8440 that has been great but I would like to buy a dual tray printer.
Thank you.

<<<I only have one printer, I guess I will have to invest in another printer.>>>
I have two laser printers and both are single tray. I print loan docs on all legal size. One time, I had a request to print on all letter size. That was a first. When my laser printers wear out, I will buy dual tray ones. Until then, I will continue to use them and print loan docs on all legal size. The TC can use a paper cutter and cut the pages to letter size, if needed.
It's good to have a second laser printer as a backup so if you have the opportunity to get a dual tray, then get one and use it as your primary printer and use your single tray printer as a backup. But if you don't have the money for another laser printer at this time, just use the one you have and print on all legal size.

Can you buy a second tray for your printer?
Many printers are such that you can buy a second tray for them. That would be more economical than buying a second printer.
Many times, 1/2 the package can be printed on letter size. Since letter size is less expensive, there can be a cost savings there, although it will take a lot of pages to break even.

My tray is adjustable - I switch from legal to letter as needed. You can't squeeze legal size onto letter with a recordable document. This will cause problems with the county recorder's office. I usually print all legal first then all letter - or the other way around. Makes for efficient printing.

Re: I do the same
I print all legal pages in the whole package first (including 2nd copy for BO), and then print letter. Takes a little more time but since I only do this work part time, I wasn't going to invest the extra money in a dual tray printer.

Re: I do the same
There are still plenty of NSA's using only a single tray printer & printing everything on legal size. That is acceptable in the industry. What they don't want anyone doing is shrinking everything to letter size. As someone has already said, if they need letter size on the DOT to record they can cut it down. We are usually not dealing with BofA directly (through the tc). If they have an issue with printing on all legal size they will certainly let you know. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: I do the same
Another thing you can consider is to scroll through the package and note which pages involve the recordables. They're usually all together, often with other letter size pages (e.g. the Note, the W-9s, 4506T, etc). Then manually select the pages you want to print from the printer driver screen, matching what size paper is in your printer. Be sure to go into Properties to set the paper size appropriately. Then switch paper, Properties settings and print the rest. If you're going to do this, however, I recommend you write down the page numbers you are printing and check them off as you go, to be sure you don't miss anything.
This will take longer, but will save a little on paper costs and will prevent someone from having to lop off the ends with a paper cutter before sending to record. (Or depending on where the property is, save a little on extra recording fees.)

90 % of my work is CW/BOA, and I print as scanned with
my dual tray HP, just as I do for every e-package. Sometimes, even the DOT is on legal, centered in the page. Now, I don't know if they use a paper-cutter and slice top/bottom to 8.5x11, or what, but I haven't had one issue with printing as scanned for any company, in my seven years.
If you don't have a dual tray, I'd check with the hiring entity to see if all legal will fly. If not, and the powers that be want let/legal, then you know the docs of which you must be mindful to provide.
In my experience of growing my business, I found that it saves money/time to invest in the right tool for the right job - and a dual tray upgrade solved one cumbersome and lackluster impediment to providing quality professional service.
Hope this helps.

The other have addressed this well... but my suggestion? Spend $200... buy yourself a good dual tray printer.
Office Depot sells refurbed Brother 5250 DNT's for $199, and they often have discounts and coupons. This is the one I bought a year ago and it's runs like a dream. I cannot recommend more highly.

You really should have a dual tray laser is you want to get any volume of work. Also, you'd be amazed at how much faster you can print, too.
