Gateway Notebook for $29 at Verizon

Well, I bit the bullet...laptops will become absolute in three or less years. I got the notebook for $29 with $100 instant rebate. I hope it works well, have 30 days to decide. I'm looking for the smallest, fastest scanner I can find right now...any suggestions? This will be for scanning in my foreclosure report with photos that I download and send back to the trustee.

The catch is the aircard expense for $59.99 monthly, but I figure I'm already paying that now. what's the diff and I have connectivity any where in Verizon country.
