I feel sorry for Louisiana notaries

I have a set of loan docs going back to a LA escrow company, and underneath each notary signature line on the title docs is the phrase "Commission expires at death." Now, we all have to face our own mortality at some point, but to be reminded of it each time you notarize a document could get down right depressing. There are, however, good things to come out of Lousiana: the Saints (undefeated so far!); Cajun music; and Paul Prudhomme cookin' - oh, and my husband (the only bayou boy in his family to leave the parish since the Louisiana Purchase. Actually, I think an in-law may have ventured as far as Mississippi once ....

I love your quotation "commission expires at death." I can see using it in a sentence like "Look, Mr Jerk LO. My commission expires at death. You keep lying and your license will expire long after YOU die."

And I think Louisiana notaries rock!

They get to do all sorts of fun things the rest of us can't do. Writing wills is all about who gets what presents and which jerk relatives get zip. I've seen some very petty wills that were hilarious. Talk about having the last word - sheesh!

On my stamps, I have "my commission is for life" but on these dern loan docs it's typed in so I have to write in "at death" every time. Hate it!!

I complete the line under my signature "Commission expires with life". I never really felt comfortable using "at death" since that seems somewhat morbid.
