I have to cancel a signing... HELP!

I have never done this before but I have to cancal one for later today. I really like this company and I feel so guilty about this.
My Son has a 105 fever with the H1N1 virus. The signing is 1.5 hours away and I cannot be that far from my son. Do I let them know that I am available for anything close to my home and my son can stay with my Husband?
Not sure how to go about this in the correct manor.

Just call them ASAP and tell them your Son is very ill and you can't be gone for 4 hours.
Tell them you can take ones closer to home where you won't be gone that long.
I would not say anything more other than how sorry you are to give one back.
They should understand.
I've had to do this twice in five years and it has not been a problem with either company.

Just tell them right away. I do not think I would say I can do any closer to home...just let them know that you cannot be far away from home, let them read between the lines. If you say you can do them close to home, they may assume you do not want to drive xx miles for $xxx fee.

They understand everyone has emergencies... just make the call as early as possible so they can schedule a replacement.

If they are a nice company they REALLY should understand, my gosh - your son is very seriously sick. You don't have to limit your travel on future signings with them. just tell them why you just can't go this time and to keep you on their list. They should do that.

I had to leave a message because nobody answered, I think I will follow up with an email to make sure they are aware. They give me a lot of business and I truly like doing business with them. My son comes first but I do feel bad..
Thanks all

If you already confirmed with borrower, u may want to call them also and explain to them to expect a call from another Notary...then they will not be so confused when they do.

Heather, the more I thought about this 105 is dangerous temp

you need to call Doc or ER for info. on bringing temp down. More important than closings IMO.

Hope he improves soon.

Re: Heather, the more I thought about this 105 is dangerous temp

Oh Jim, thank you for being so kind! I already did take him to the ER in the wee hours of this morning. I would never be on my computer worried about a signing if he wasn't OK :-) (I should have made that clear) His temp is better now, more controlled with alternating tylenlol and ibuprofen. Unfortunately my friends son also had this and it took a few days for him to feel better. I am blessed that my son is otherwise healthy and will be OK..
Thanks for you concern!

Make sure you....

keep an eye on his breathing too. My son, who is now 5, had 103 temp when he was 2 for 3 days. We alternated the tylenol & motrin & he was not getting better. Long story short, he ended up in an induced coma for a month at Children's w/pnuemonia & fluid in the lungs. He was able to get better & is now fine but I always get worried when kids get sick w/high temps, esp. w/this H1N1 going around. God bless & I hope he makes a speedy recovery!!!!

Re: Make sure you....

You are only one person and these things happen. I had the H1N1 last week and had to give back 3 assignments for the 2nd day that I was down with it. I could not move out of bed. They will understand and if not...too bad so sad. Also, I have had to give a couple back over my son being sick and my husband traveling for work. I got the H1N1 from my son and he was out of school for 1 week and spiking temps on and off. The last 2 days he had such bad leg cramps that he could not walk. You and your families health comes first.

Be apologetic-that is all you can do.

No problem. I have a friend that lost his 20 something daughter to swine flu, it is nothing to mess with.

Hope that he and his friend recover quickly.

This happened to me when I had the flu

I called another qualified notary to see if they were available. I then called the TC, explained I was too sick to go and gave them the name of a qualified notary that was available.

Re: This happened to me when I had the flu

Last year I was hospitalized with Double Pneumonia...at the time I literally had at least 15 signings already scheduled from one company...I also had all of the docs...they totally understood, sent another signing agent to pick up my docs and are still my #1 company I work with.

As long as you have good work ethics, you will be fine and they will understand
