OT - gloves and hot water bottles
OT but helpful to NSAs, I hope.
I now carry disposable gloves in my notary briefcase.
Last weekend (a full week after I got the piggy flu so I was def not contagious) a Canadian woman needed something important and tricky notarized. She had worked with me before and knows I am a super nerd and my work does not get rejected (at least not in the past many years). Her beloved husband was having heart surgery a few days later and she was scared about bringing home the swine flu to him. So we made this arrangement: *We both wore gloves. *She put ID and docs in large baggies. *She wore a face mask. *She gave me papers then sat at a different table while I worked. *I did my work, put the papers back in the baggies. She stood briefly at my table, paid me, and gave me a little gift. (I get this lots. I love girl stuff and muffins.)
So now I carry gloves in my briefcase.
Another little tip: hot water bottle. You know me - there's a little story.
I moved and my new little house does not have a garage or car port. (Fine, I love the big yard that deer often walk through.) My little pug gets cold quite easily. I went to buy her one of those heated pet beds that you plug into cigarette lighter.
$70! No way.
So I sewed a little bed for her into which I put uncooked rice. 5 minutes in the microwave and that thing stays warm for a couple of hours. If I put it into the car 5 minutes before the dog and I get in, the entire interior of the car is warm and my driving glasses won't steam up the instant I put them on.
Well the pug finally took advantage of one of my menopausal non-memory blips and got at the "food" inside the pad and made a big mess. I haven't had time to make a new bed and you can't microwave duct tape (I think). So I have been using a hot water bottle.
It doesn't cook the interior as well but it sure makes a difference!
A hot water bottle is also great under my feet when I am at the computer, like now. I'm spending money heating water, I might as well use more of it. (I'll switch an instant hot water thingy - instead of the usual water heater - next time I move.)
You ppl in Michigan and places have probably been onto this tip for years but this former California gal is trying to catch on and sharing as I do.
Stay well and warm, LauraV
