Quote for the day about asking questions

"Anyone who asks a question might be a fool for 5 minutes, but a person who doesn't ask is a fool forever." This is certainly fitting for this forum, isn't it?

In other words-- A dumb question is the one that you

don't ask, just before you do something REALLY dumb..

Or this...

I'm sick and tired of this politically correct crap!

I realize that some on here will just parrot platitudes but there really are dumb queastions and there really are dumb people and those who don't have a valid opinion. We all run into them daily. I have seen on Not Rot questions such as "what do I put in the venue?" A person should not be a notary if they have to ask how to fill in the venue block. There are many such instances and yes they are dumb questions! the pox on political correctness, it is just an excuse for lack of cogent reasonable thought!

Oh oh Charles-- bad breakfast? :-)

But I do agree that the dumb a$$ questions have no place here. Maybe we should ask Harry to create a forum for Nitwit Notaries Who Haven't Got a Clue. Better yet - let's ask Harry to create that tab and anyone who posts there automatically gets linked to their appropriate secretary of states office.

Play nice

You know...I have known some pretty intelligent people in my day...but even they...can crank out a stupid question or comment. Lord knows...I am notorious for them. I would like to think that we are mature and patient enough to show mercy on others who have taking a dose of dumb for breakfast. I don't know about you all...but I would rather laugh at a dumb question...then gasp at a rude reaction to it. Cast the first stone...those without a stupid moment...ya know...lol. I always like Bob's way of handling questions...cheers to you Bob!

Then we also need a separate classification for "Know It All Notaries Who Are Intolerant Of Anyone Who Doesn't Know It All".

Re: Oh oh Charles-- bad breakfast? :-)

I think we've gotten off the track. The point is that there are simple notary questions that are so basic as to cause one to bang their heads and ask why? Asking what venue to use is basic. Then there are procedural questions that even old goats like me may suffer an occasional brain freeze. Add to the mix the discussions on things like the notary acceptor thread, threads about the really weird requests or the extraordinary things that come up and that makes for a forum that is a pleasure to come to and be involved with. No one is expected to know everything at any given moment, but it gets exasperating to see the same old basic questions asked day after day.

bf attack

Maybe it is just....brain farts...lol. I wish I had a nickel for every dumb thing I do...or say in a day's time. I just think the best way to handle a stupid question...is with humor and intelligence. I notice some of the most respected people on this site...never answer a question with anything but kindness and understanding. I happen to respect and like that about them. I read the posts daily just to learn from them.

I just love you ya oldhippie...you!

I am not saying you have to sugarcoat every answer you give...but nothing puts a sour taste in mouth quicker than someone insulting someone else. Especially when I know it is something I would ask...lol. I know my co-workers could knock me in the head on my "brain fart" days...but they don't...thank goodness. I don't see anything wrong with pointing out a past discussion...coz it may save time reading what you may be ready to ask. But...I do think it is wiser to respond in a kind way. I could list at least 10 folks on here that I look for their names...just to get a giggle...or just good advice.
