Not trying to be facetious but have you asked yourself why? The business is nowhere like it used to be, there are so many deadbeat signing services, fees are lower than they have ever been, what little work there is people do for next to nothing driving fees even lower. So why would you want to do this now?

I agree with John. This business is flooded with people, many well qualified, with years of experience in related fields like Real Estate, Lending, and Title work. Especially in CA. But you may want to look at the National Signing Agent Registry; I hear their educational material is very good.

I'm a real estate agent and notary in a small community in northern CA. I'm looking to supplement my income. I'm looking for an affordable online course to become a signing agent. I've seen other agents be successful at this.

If you're an RE agent and have been exposed to the paperwork already then you probably don't need a course to tell you what you probably already know. I would review typical documents that are used, HUD, DOT's, etc and go over in my mind how I would explain them to a client in an informative, neutral way. Maybe you can role play with someone in your office. Since you already have your commission then you are probably 90% there! I don't know about your area of course but before you invest any money into this, it would be wise to see how the signing "pie" will be sliced. Good luck.

You don't need a course... if you're already a notary and are familiar with the process, you're pretty much already there. If you're really determined... here are things to do:
1. If you want to "supplement" your income, don't think that a $60-$80 fee is going to cut it. A lot of part-timers think they're making money that way, when in fact they're likely losing it like crazy. Know your expenses, have the right equipment and charge your fees accordingly -- don't let the signing services dictate what they will pay. You are your own business and you need to charge the rates consistent with your business needs. If you don't know your profit margin off the top of your head, or within moments of being presented with a job... you're not ready to take any yet.
2. Order The Signing Registry Training Guide... it used to be offered here at NotRot, not sure why it isn't anymore.

The TSR Professional Sales Training Guide (former Signing Registry Training Guide) is still on this site. Signout and go to the Welsome screen and scroll down to bottom of page.
