copy for the borrower

When making copies for the borrower does it matter what size paper you make their copy on?

It does if you make a mistake and need their copy to

back it up.

It might....

I always print two full copies. The borrower gets the exact same package that goes to the lender, including paper size. There are several reasons for that. One, of course is that you've got an exact backup just in case... the other is that it's a tactile reminder for the borrower. Let's say they're looking for a specific document, an we know it was on a legal sheet, we would skip over the letter size ones.

The fact, the borrower is likely paying for this anyway... they deserve a copy of what they sign, in the format they signed it.

The only times I've not doe that were when the borrower specifically asked me to NOT print their copies but to provide it on a CD instead... and these have alwayd been e-sign situations where the borrower was very familiar with the process.

Re: It might....

Well said, Marian. I've heard of too many notaries that feel a need to shrink the docs to letter for the borrowers. Some try to rationalize that it's because they won't have a legal size filing cabinet. Say what????? I wouldn't want to count the no. of times I've had to pull a doc from that copy package because a mistake is made. IMO it's all those things that only point out that someone is not a true professional in the field.

I always tell the bo..I have a complete exact set of all the documents that your are signing that I will be leaving with you when we are finished. Bos do appreciate it! If they see that they were printed on letter might they think they do not have a complete set? Plus the fact if a mistake is made then how would your replace the page?

Re: It might....

I learned my lesson early on, I had a couple that were number than numb and had to replace quite a few originals with copies. It still happens and unless you literally stand over everyone as they sign and slap them when they pull a no no, you will regret not having exact copies.

Re: It might....

I do pretty much the same thing, too, when I'm the one who prints the docs. In situations where a LO has brought the docs or I've picked them up from the title co, or worse yet, docs were sent to the borrower, it's amazed me how often some docs were not included in the borrowers' set. This most often includes the title/escrow docs, not the lender docs. It makes me think that the tc has a clerk making the copies who has no clue. Or else they just don't think the borrower needs a copy. All too often, these are the ones where a borrower makes a mistake.

Re: It might....

I agree. When the docs are overnighted they certainly do not give the borrower a complete set, only critical docs.
