General Notary Work: RUSH/Pledgees

I live in a city that has three well-known universities and several different colleges. Since August I've been contacted no fewer than five times to notarize Affidavits for new members joining sororities and fraternities. Next year, I will post flyers at the three universities in the student union area advertising my notary services and offer a student discount. On second thought, I might just go ahead and contact the groups directly, via Facebook and/or MySpace

I'm wondering why this is the first year I'm seeing this form. Either it's a new requirement or another notary who was getting the business has left the area.

Great idea! You might want to 'try' to line 'em all up for one day/particular time period. Like Sat. 9 - 10am or so. You can always stay longer if it warrants it.

That is a great idea. Most Universities have a Greek governing body that may be of great assistance and help. They would be the ones that would help you organize a block of time; and get the word out. Anything that is going to posted at a University, generally, has to be approved. It is really no big deal....start by calling the Student Union and they can assist you from there. I cant, off the top of my head, think of the department it would go through. Good luck- great idea and thank you for sharing!!!

I think if you'll just go to the student center and find a message board it will have posted on there whom to contact. At MSU I believe there are 3 of those boards in the student center so you'd want to be sure to put it up on each of them.

Good luck!

Student email list serv + website

Good on you, Michelle!

I totally agree with the house signing venue plan. Great idea.

I would guess some frat or school with frats somewhere had a huge liability problem at least partly due to identity fraud. Hence the reason for the sudden demand.

Most universities these days have a student list serv and / or student-run website for announcements.

Offer a frat guy a big free pizza in exchange for posting a couple of announcements about your service.

Offer a sorority girl a nice $ Starbucks card so she can treat a friend or two. We girls love to yak!

Story with a point -
When I was a broke college student, I lived in a frat near UC Berkeley one summer because it was by far the cheapest rent and I was taking a class at a college in San Francisco so I would graduate with a double major. (Summer school + commute meant no job. I ate lentils for cheap protein all summer and never want to see another one in my life.)

I specifically chose a frat for medical doctors and engineers because those guys are cleaner. That frat was filthy and I hated it all summer. But I was on full scholarship and truly grateful for every break I got.

Suffice to say: don't do signings at frat houses. Do them at sorority houses.

And the guys will love you for inviting them over to meet girls!

You are going to have a ball!
