Have you ever stopped to consider What if....?

We notaries stopped calling re: status of docs?
Would we ever get them? How many loans would never close? It would be a nightmare. LOL!

Yes & don't you just hate that. It really messes up trying to accomplish some sort of "schedule".

What's a schedule?

I'm for it.

For a few years now, when I get a job, I let them know that I will schedule the appointment after I get the documents. Calling was too time consuming and did nothing to help me keep a schedule. But, since the slowdown, I do, in fact make that call once again to check on the status when I think that they should have been here by now.

You may have given me new inspiration to quit calling altogether, unless it's to the BO to say, "I haven't received the documents yet and since it's 8 PM, I guess not tonight."

I don't keep calling...

They call me for the job, send confirmation, I confirm with borrowers, (letting them know it's pending my receiving their documents) let company know we're all confirmed for such and such a time and that's the end. No more calls until about 3 hours before the appointment (maybe 4 depending on how far I have to travel) - then I send an e-mail letting them know they have one hour to get all the docs to me or the appointment will have to be postponed. Most times I get the docs almost immediately...have had a few that had to be rescheduled for a later time and, yes, have had a couple that I turned back because the docs just never got here by my drop dead time.

I don't feel it's up to me to sit on the company and make sure they get their job done on time - they called me, they know they have to get it done - or at least they should. I have other things to do.

Re: I don't keep calling...

Last month one SS from GA told me that they will never call me again if I dont waited for their client, the appt was for 4pm and I had to leave for another appt. I told him if I don't get docs in the next ten minutes I will have to reschedule for another time later tonight. The borrower even told me to cancel my other appt and do hers first!! I told her that it wasn't my fault that title did not deliver docs on time.

Nobody owns my time but me.

Re: I don't keep calling...

I agree with Linda. It's not my job to sit on the title company to get the docs. That's their job. I give them a deadline of 3 hours prior to signing appointment time at the time I'm hired and then it's in their court. No docs, no signing.

I called for status 2 hours before closing. And found out they double booked and gave the docs to the second notary! Nice. I was not a happy camper this evening. Cost me two other closings I could have had tonight, but didn't because of that one. Two VERY nice glasses of wine made it a little better!

When that happens to me, I take the invoice and write loss.
