Just wonderin' in CA
My sister just got her CA insurance agent license. She took the required class, signed up for the state test and a few days later took the test. She got the results instantly - before leaving the testing site (at the Insurance Department) - pass or fail - they don't give a numerical score - and she had her license a few days later. Oh, and they didn't require a photo - but fingerprints, of course. Compare that to the ordeal we go through as notaries - we have to sign up months and months ahead for the class and test if we have any hope of getting our commission (new or renewed) within our lifetime - we wait 10-15 business days for the test results - and then the real waiting begins - didn't a CA notary recently post she had been waiting since June for her renewal? That seems a bit excessive even for the CA SOS - but I wonder how the insurance department can be so seemingly efficient while the SOS is so bogged down... tho if you happen to actually go to the SOS office in Sacramento, which I have twice, they are very nice and give immediate service, even digging out my application from among thousands and issuing my commission on the spot!
