Mobile Printing

I would like to be able to print documents on the run. I have viewed other discussions and understand I need an inverter. I would like to know if anyone here is printing mobile and have an I-Phone or are you using an aircard? Also, if you can give me any pointers to make this a successful attempt would be appreciated.

Hi Chucke,

I'm doing mobile printing but not from my car. I have a portable Brother laser printer that I keep in my trunk. When the need arises, I print either from the Borrower's home, or a FedEx Kinkos. The FedEx here does not mind me bringing in my own equipment. I use my Blackberry Storm to connect to the internet. My territory, the volume of my business, and the location of my home office does not make it necessary for me to print docs from the car. When that changes, I will invest in an inverter.

Re: Mobile Printing - it's not for me

I brought my printer into a borrower's home once and when she opened her door and saw me with my printer, she curled her lip up at me and let me know throughout the entire signing how unprofessional she felt I was. I apologized numerous times and tried to kill her with kindness, but she was a condescending b**ch to me the entire time. She also complained about me to the L/O (while I was there printing docs and I could hear her), and I'm sure the TC heard about it, however I fessed up to the TC with a status call immediately after the appointment. (I think it was sue_pa that once advised that you should always tattle on yourself to your client before the borrower or L/O has a chance to.) The TC did continue to use me for signings.

Horrible experience - I will NEVER print at the borrower's home again. I don't have enough business to warrant the expense of an aircard and setting up a mobile office with an inverter. I had an aircard for two years (two-year contract) and it was the one piece of equipment I've been sorry that I bought for my business. I canceled it the moment the two-year contract was up in April 2009.

From everything that I have seen here, it is a major hassle

and expense to equip your vehicle to print while you are driving.
I suggest that you first get a fairly light weight, laser printer to carry in your car.
Get a cell air card and a lap top.
You can download the dox while driving to bwrs house, and then carry printer ito house,
and plug it into AC outlet.
Sign the dox as they come out of printer, and print bwrs copy while you are finishing signing.
If pkg has legal and letter, print all on legal and cut down letter dox that need to be on
letter, such as mortgage with a paper cutter.

Re: I have a 1000 watt inverter hard wired to my battery.

My husband put it in. A 1000 watt Inverter is what it takes to run my laptop and laser printer (HP1006) at the same time. Yes I can print while driving 70 mph down the freeway lol. I have done that a few times when docs were running late (I don't like to). But you do what you have too some time. I have Verizon air card for my lap top. I have had my service for 2.5 years and it has never cost more then the day I started the service. Verizon is everywhere. I have never been unable to get service no matter where I have been. I also have a copy machine in my car. I use that at every signing I do to make copy's of the borrowers Id. If you need any more information just pm me. Hope this helps.

Chucke, do a search here and u will find lots of suggestions

you do NOT have to pay for monthly aircard though.

I have 1500 watt Pure Sine Wave (better for electronics) Inverter, Marine gel cell battery, hp laser printer and have gone from laptop to net book. I used to pay for Verizon tethering service ($30/month) but now use free signals, wifi, apartments etc... I am also checking into Blackberry software that allows the tethering for a one time software fee (($40 or $50) vs. paying monthly.

I would never cut legal down to letter though...Bob, do you actually do this?

I do also carry a very long extension cord for low battery moments.

Re: I have a 1000 watt inverter hard wired to my battery.

Printers are suppose to be kept in an environment with a temp of 50-90 degrees. Do you leave your printer in your car all of the time? If so, are there any precautions that you take or know of to protect the printer from high or low temperatures?

I decided some time ago not to go totally mobile. I can see that as a necessity if you're in a rural area.
I have a lot of options, including running by a Fedex Office (not calling it Kinko's anymore). I set a limit on the stress & craziness I sign up for. I do carry a portable deskjet all-in-one for scanning & printing copies of the borrowers ID. I end up using that quite a bit.

Re: Mobile Printing...glad to hear your business is

such that it warrants going totally mobile - I considered it when I first started out but over time have come to realize it's not necessary for me - especially today with the market such as it is and business being down.

Lots of info here in search...in fact, one poster outlined each and every thing you need to have and need to do to be totally mobile - a fabulous walkthrough....

Good Luck!!
