Most Mistakes EVER!
Just witnessed the most mistakes ever on the 2nd half of a split closing. The first notary missed 15 signatures/dates. Missed having borrower sign mortgage and note, notarized the note ect ect! I called title - new docs will be ready on Monday, wife will be signing with POA - go figure. I just couldn't believe somebody could actually make so many mistakes on one closing - obviously this closer has never done this before. It's actually very sad and scary! Just looked him up - he's even a premier member with the following comment "Let me free you from all headaches of being a babysitter for all your documents. I will get the job done fast and accurately" - what a trip!!

How sad. When you read the profiles, it seems everyone claims to be an expert. Ha! Ha!

Not surprised at all ...
Due to our rather isolated working structure, most NSA's rarely have this opportunity to view the handiwork of others - and I think it's very, very enlightening when we do.
Because the opportunity is rare, these reports from 'inside' our circle are rare - and woe to the SS who ventures into this forum to complain. There is a false assumption that any complaint from a vendor is directly relative to the fee they pay.
I've said many, many times - having seen over 10,000 closed loans with my own eyeballs, on average only 1 in 10 came in 100% error free (from both NSA's and title closers). I can attest to SOME correlation between horrendous error rates and fees, but not to the extent that seems to be assumed.
What I've noticed in my own experiences now, is a spreading dismay among the real estate agents. I do a lot of purchase closings, and more and more I'm asked when I hit the door "Are you a contract closer?" Seriously, sometimes they actually DO wait at the door, too! We're not supposed to volunteer that - so they're getting savvy about this ...asking "So, is Mary in the office today?" or 'did Susie have her baby?' and other such things that only an inside-the-office worker would know.
My response is always to set them at ease - 'trust me, I know what I'm doing, I promise it'll all be good' - but they didn't wake up that morning with those arbitrary judgements, and we need to be AWARE of this.
We're but a small vocal group here on N/R, but we also know there are MANY who read from behind the curtain. While we're pretty vocal about trying to hold our fees to a professional level, I think it might be even MORE crucial that we are as insistant that those fees are for PROFESSIONAL SERVICES.
There's business, then there's socializing - and in business, when confronted with a less-than-satisfactory performance there's no expectation that it will be 'socially supported'. What I mean by that is - now & then we'll read a post saying "help, just took my first signing and am clueless!" and there will be many who say "just fake it". While there's never any cause for being rude, I don't believe it's benefiting anyone to 'socially support' professional ignorance.

The first Notary was NOT from Wisconsin - he was from out of state as this was a split closing. The husband is in the military and stationed in another state. I don't want to slander the guy - he knows who he is and he obvioulsly needs some training. I don't know how a loan would ever fund with him as a closer.

Did you at least send this guy a PM and let him know how sloppy and basically worthless his work is?
To make the kind of errors you referenced would mean to me that he has no clue about being a Notary and even less of a clue about being an NSA, this is sad to say the least.

I agree, Jim. I think I would have found a way to let him know he's doing work that isn't acceptable, and suggest more training.

I really don't know what to say to him "hey guy, your obviouslyy not competent to do this - take down your membership/profile now!"... It's really not my place, it's titles/lenders, and I believe they will contact him. I figure he won't be in business for long and if he is he'll only get the great jobs that nobody else wants.

The problem here is the guy is a "danger" to the financial affairs of other borrowers out there until he DOES stop getting - AND accepting - signings. How many borrowers are going to have their loans NOT fund (and maybe lose their rate or, worse, their HOMES) because of this guy.
I know it's difficult, and I'm honestly not sure how'd you do it, but someone needs to let this guy know he's not qualified for this yet - maybe your SOS? You initially said he missed signatures and date, etc., etc. - if some of them were on the notarized docs, then maybe your SOS can step in...but someone needs to do something.
Good Luck.
