Stay well-fight the flu with this sweet tip

Hey, the best advice I can give on this board is --if you get the flu EAT LOTS OF HONEY. I learned this tip a couple of years ago and it really works! Just eat about 3-4 tablespoons ever 3-4 hours if you feel the flu coming on. It has worked on my kids (dont give it to toddlers or babies though) My kids too have been well. We eat it now just to stay healthy. It doesnt work on stomach flu.

2 years ago I was coming down with the flu and I had recalled that my mom had sent me an email on natural foods that heal. It said there is something in HONEY that zaps the flu. Well I couldnt get to it fast enough. I did have the chills coming on at that time, and I didnt' end up with the flu (as my husband had just had it). Its worth the try. It has worked for me and my family.

In New Zealand they sell a special honey for bacterial infections, it's amazing. Tastes medicinal.

Tupelo honey is in big demand for its properties - this must be a reason I hear people asking for it all the time.

I had received this email last year..I was having chronic pain from a past surgery and tried the honey and cinnamon and the pain was gone in 2 days it relieved it so much that I cancelled an MRI. I know use cinnamon for reducing cholestrol ( my Dr. told me to keep doing this) and use cinnamon and honey for a lot of things..example sprinkle garlic on a teas. add honey..calms a cough! There are so many uses for this and it works and is very cheap!

Get 80% of the value of sleeping by........

Heard this on the radio from a doc broadcasting from NY -

When you can't sleep, get 80% of the value of sleeping by lying in bed with
*lights out
*eyes shut
*room darkened (close drapes)

I have the flu and this totally works.

I sleep my 7-8 hours. But I want to get well fast so I stay in bed either thinking and taking notes (I briefly turn on a night light for this) or listening to BBC overnight or Canada's version of NPR.

I probably don't get the full 80% benefit when I take notes but I sure am getting better fast.

I'm trying to nap or at least do the above in the afternoon, too.

(Last time I had a cold or anything was 3+ years ago so I'm OK. Don't know if it's swine flu. I keep forgetting to look up the symptoms on the web.)

Thanks for the tip, ILsigning. I went to the grocery store yesterday to get honey.
This flu has taken my IQ. Menopause has taken my memory. I couldn't find the honey so went back home to bed.

I'll try again today. Cross your fingers for me.

Maybe you are actually asleep now, and just dreaming about posting on Not/Rot?

Re: Get 80% of the value of sleeping by........

Glad to hear you're getting better fast. I suspect that if you had the swine flu, you'd probably be feeling lots worse. A couple of months back, I did some general notary work (some contracts) at the corporate office for a small company. There were a bunch of signers and, as we're all sitting together around a conference table, one of the executives was telling us that she was just getting over the swine flu and couldn't remember when she'd been so sick. [And I'm sitting there thinking "Gee, thanks!" and so was her partner, sitting next to her, I'd bet from the look on his face...Wink] Fortunately, I was on the other side of the table and didn't get sick!

I've heard before what you said about the value of just resting, even if you can't sleep. That, and lots of fluids. Another thing that has helped me a great deal in the past is meditation. Waaaay back when I was in college, by brother talked me into getting trained on Transcendental Meditation (TM) and I was pretty consistent with it for about a year or so. It got me through a horrendous schedule my last year in college - classes, student teaching, working part time. A twenty minute meditation session can feel like getting two hours of sleep. [For us, it was just a physiological thing, we didn't get into any philosophical or metaphysical stuff.]

For the uninitiated, it just involves focusing on a sound to give your brain something to do so it can stop thinking. It allows your body to go into a state of relaxation that is deeper than sleep (heart rate and breathing slow way down), even though you are still conscious and can hear what is going on around you (preferably nothing, so you don't get distracted). It's a great way to deal with stress. These days, I only do it when desperate, but I keep telling myself that I should try to work it into my schedule somehow. AND I should get more exercise. AND - the list goes on... Wink

Should be RAW, unprocessed honey for full benefit

As with any food - commercial processing reduces or totally destroys the health benefits.

Processed honey is easy to spot - it's clear. Processing is done by heating & filtering the honey, and the heat destroys much if not all of the beneficial vitamins, enzymes, minerals & phytonutrients.

Also note that honey of ANY kind should not be given to infants under 1 year of age.
