UPS
They changed their online system. Now, if you just have an account number, but no pre-printed label, you either print out the label using the account number you have, or you must prepay for the shipment. I had to call the automated system. I was using my laptop which is not connected to the printer right now.

I've been handwriting UPS labels for a while. They seem to have a lot of problems w/their system, and I'm not going to deal with charges to my acct.

I always handwrite their labels but I did maintain an account so I could order supplies. Two orders ago, I had to re-register on their website. Last time, which was only two months later, I found that my account had been deactivated due to inactivity. I had to order supplies over the phone.
UPS is too much of a PITA for me. I ship all my personal packages via more friendly FedEx. If I need a UPS label, I handwrite it.

Re: UPS acct. NOT needed for supplies
I have NEVER had an account or given them cc info. and call for supplies when needed.

Becoming more popular?
Lately I've been noticing that more and more clients are using UPS. Fortunately, also, more and more are sending preprinted labels along with the documents.

Re: Becoming more popular?
FYI - Also becoming more popular are UPS Stores (have MANY in Michigan) that NO LONGER ship from WAYBILL accts. - you must have UPS envelope and shipper already when going to them....

Re: Becoming more popular?
I'm friends with the owner of my local UPS store. They aren't allowed to keep waybills in their shop because ANY NUMBER can be written in--their system doesn't validate a number before shipping. If a number isn't valid, then the store is billed for the shipment.
The local shop was paying tens of thousands of dollars in these invalid accounts, so they stopped carrying waybills and even ask me to bring mine in completed--rather than completing them in the store.
I totally understand their situation though. UPS needs to fix that hole in their system BIG TIME.

Re: Becoming more popular?
I've noticed that too, Janet. Mixed feelings. Nice to have the preprinted label for UPS, but wish it was a preprinted label for FedEx. More FedEx mailing points around here than UPS.
