accepting escrow checks for closings in Virginia

I am a new notary and have been told by a more experienced notary that we are not allowed to handle money at loan closings in Virginia. I have searched the handbook for Va. and the internet and have not been able to find anything on the subject. The signing companies have been asking me to collect the monies owed the banks for the refinances. Does anyone have any info on this subject?

Do a search on this website for CRESPA - this has been discussed before and I'm sure the past posts will be helpful to you.

Technically, we're not supposed to be handling checks. It's complicated & been discussed before, as someone has already pointed out.
