Identifying witnesses on DOT/Mtg?

When BO is required to provide 2 witnesses for DOT/Mtg, are we required to look at their ID's? Doing my first purchase of FL property next week. And do the witnesses need to sign anything other than the DOT/Mtg? Haven't gotten docs yet, but the way docs are tending to run late, could use a heads-up beforehand. Thanks for any tips!

Verifying IDs of witness, though not really required, is a good idea. FYI - Florida does not require witnesses for a Mortgage. Witnesses are required for deeds that are executed for property situated in Florida.

If witnesses are used, the witness must clearly print his/her name beneath their signature. Otherwise, the instrument may be rejected by the recording clerk. A notary can act as a witness unless restricted by local laws.

Good point, thanks, Paul. I'll do a quick, verification of DL with the witnesses.
I had read on this board that only a deed needed witnesses in FL, but the instructions on the SS confirmation say two witnesses on DOT/Mtg, so it might be a lender reqmt. Will see if clearer instructions come w/docs from lender. Thanks again!

Advice on FL property:
2 witnesses are needed on deeds of conveyance, one can be the notary.
(unless lender requires witnesses).
No ID needed for witness to the deed/mtg, but have the witnesses print his/her legal name under his/her signature.
BLUE pens, at least on anything recordable.
Most lenders on FL properties prefer blue on everything IME.

Thanks for the tip on blue ink for FL recordables. Maybe I'll just have them sign in blue throughout the package.

Cheryl, blue is not required, but preferred. The important thing is that the signatures and ink be consistent.
