News for people marrying in CT

Whether you are getting married or are a wedding officiant, this change is important.

On October 1st, 2009 couple must get their marriage licenses in the town / city where the ceremony will be held. (Until then, the couple can get their license in either of the towns /cities where they live or in the ceremony city.)

As of the 1st of October, 2009 the fee for a certified copy of a marriage license will increase to $20.00. (That's DOUBLE the fee now!) It is illegal for a CT Notary to certify a copy of any vital record (birth, death, marriage).

Connecticut Notaries Public are still legally able to charge only $0.35 per mile for travel; the statutory fee for each notarization is $5.00. Those rates have been in effect for years.

It's our tax dollars at work.
