Notorizing Copies of Doctors License
Hi I am a New California notary that had a question as to what process to take to notarize a photo copy of a doctors MD license and Drivers license on one photo copy form, and she do have her original in hand, she needs this Notarized before she can mail it into the DEA. Do I need a Jurat or is there some other form I need and what should I do first, second, and third,?? hlp

Are you kidding us?
Did you not follow the extensive discussion regarding the very same question you already asked once before? See message 305199.
You cannot legally do anything in any way shape or form "certify" a document. Your legal authority is to notarize the SIGNATURE on a document, not the document itself.
You cannot legally make a choice between a Jurat and an Acknowledgement. It is up to the person who signed the document to make that choice, even if it may not be the correct choice.
You cannot legally provide a statement of "Certification" in any format to the person who is going to sign the "Certification" because that is an Unauthorized Practice of Law in California. Doing so could cause the SOS to revoke your commission and subject you to other penalties.
Your question is so basic to the duties and responsibilities of becoming a California notary Public that I am forced to ask you: Did you actually attend a notary class and were you awake and listening during the class? If so, just about every CA notary on this board would likely want to know what company"taught" this class because their "teaching"performance couldn't possibly meet the minimum requirements of the CA SOS.
Your commission is a sacred trust. You should learn your duties and responsibilities completely before you consider performing any notarizations for anybody.

First, you should let everyone know you do not know what you are doing and haven't a clue. Second, decline the job. Third, read your handbook and/or call for new education class.
You didn't pay attention in class the first time, you didn't pay attention when your question was asked and answered the first time, and what makes you think you will pay attention this time?

Suggest to your Doctor to Google "Copy Certification by Document Custodian", as was suggested in the lengthy string below.

Re: IMHO that is still UPL in CA
I once heard California described as the Land of Fruits and Nuts. Translate as you wish.
Remember we have the wackiest Federal Appeals Court in the country and an Attorney General formerly known as "Governor Moonbeam" trying to become Governor for a third term.
So IMHO anything outside of identify, confirm understanding and willingness, sign and seal can be considered UPL in CA.

David . . you're the one who suggested it in the below string.

I didn't say for the notary to Google and get the form from there, but to suggest to the Doctor that he/she could Google to find something to fit his/her needs.

You asked the same question on this page and received knowledgable 28 replies which you have apparently ignored. Please do all notaries a favor and contact your Secretary of State and tell them you don't have a clue about what your duties as a notary are and turn in your seal.

They weren't being vicious because of your question
but rather that you asked this same question earlier and got very extensive, very good advice - did you not read the replies to your previous post? Posting this question indicates you didnt - that's what has them asking "what??"

Okay...I'm going to add here...I took a moment to go
look at the other thread - and you responded to all those who gave advice - AND indicated you called the NNA - you said you had your answer...and seemed quite content.
So now I'm even more baffled at (1) why you posted the same question again, and (2) why you took offense.

I'm going to expand LindaH's thought here
The NNA is not known for giving absolutely accurate informationl; quite often they dispense the wrong advice, even in their printed manuals for the states.
A great number of us have discovered this on our own.
But it does appear to me that you are using "Where there is a will there is a way" as your motto. Sometimes, there is not a way.

I am a member to more than just this site and I was looking for positive advice from all of my site's, it was an error relisting here again but from that, life is hard enough for people like yourself to take a newbie down like you did, but me I am very BLESSED! and will not let this break me because I am not the one, and no one knows me to judge me or my education, so have a nice life continuing what you do and I will also!

No one is being vicious to you or belittling you, they're being truthful. From this post & the previous one, you are showing an indication of not listening when you're advised AGAINST an illegal act. If you want to be a Notary & commit illegal acts, you certainly won't get warm fuzzies here.

Please do not take that attitude, You asked for advise so that you did not look ignorant. Most of the advice was very sound, some was sound but was not presented in a way you found to your liking. Best advice is to call your SS office and find out the correct procedure. PS The posters her are very rough on notarys that do not understand their state laws and their responsibilties

Re: Notarizing Copies of Doctors License
I don't think anyone's intention was to belittle you, just to correct your information. But we do tend to get a bit testy sometimes when someone is about to undertake an illegal act and/or do something that reflects poorly on all of us. Some of us "professionals" on this board have been at this for a long time and have notarized thousands of documents. We have a pretty good idea of what you are talking about, to the extent that you explained it. Some of us also explained in pretty explicit detail what you could and should (and should NOT) do. You may choose to ignore that advice at your own peril.
I can't imagine what other "professionals" you're getting your advice from, but they're not doing you any favors, hon...

Notary 101--The notary can't choose the notarial certificate language--Acknowledgment or Jurat. That is considered Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL). From the questions you are asking, you need more notary education before you put that stamp into use.

Troll Alert, People
http://www.flayme.com/troll/
Pertinent Exerpts:
What Is A Troll? The term derives from "trolling", a style of fishing which involves trailing bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The troll posts a message, often in response to an honest question, that is intended to upset, disrupt or simply insult the group. Usually, it will fail, as the troll rarely bothers to match the tone or style of the group, and usually its ignorance shows.
Why do trolls do it? I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful. Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too. For trolls, any response is 'recognition'; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response. Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it's a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny? Remember that trolls are cowards; they'll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that's what they do!).
How can troll posts be recognised? *Repetition of a question or statement is either a troll - or a pedant; either way, treatment as a troll is effective. *Missing The Point - Trolls rarely answer a direct question - they cannot, if asked to justify their twaddle - so they develop a fine line in missing the point.

for all you newie to message forms such as I, here is the defination of Troll Alert
A Troll is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Trolls delight in causing discord on the forums. They inspire flaming rhetoric and they purposely provoke and pull people into a flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war.
